    Interview: 2011

    Twitter 2011 (WoT) (Verbatim)

    Ted Herman (10 January 2011)

Is it error when Elyas told Perrin [in The Eye of the World] chapter 29 that no Hawkwing's kin stayed in Randland? (Mayene's Firsts claim kinship)

    Brandon Sanderson (10 January 2011)

I haven't looked at it specifically, but my guess would be that Elyas doesn't know or believe the claims.

    Interview: Apr 5th, 1996

    Robert Jordan

Berelain is Perrin's hawk (seen in Min's vision). I really don't know how anybody could have failed to make this connection, and Jordan was similarly incredulous when someone asked him. "What is the symbol of the Mayene?" he intoned heavily. "And who wears that symbol on crown, above her brow? Who is descended from Artur Hawkwing? And who is chasing Perrin like a bird of prey?" Those words aren't Jordan's verbatim, but they're close.

    Interview: 2011

    Twitter 2011 (WoT) (Verbatim)

    Greg Noe (5 August 2011)

Reading Towers of Midnight, not getting the Perrin/Faile chapters. Especially the pointless Perrin/Berelain rumors. Payoff, @BrandSanderson?

    Brandon Sanderson (5 August 2011)

If you go back to the earlier books, those were a BIG deal in the Perrin plotlines, and are a thread that was never tied up.

    Interview: Apr 5th, 1996

    Question

Some dude asked if Perrin's hawk had appeared yet.

    Robert Jordan

The answer: "I thought that was fairly obvious. What is the symbol of Mayene? What is the CROWN of Mayene?" i.e. Berelain, for all of you who actually doubted that. RJ also said Berelain is attracted to Perrin partly because he's the first man she wanted and couldn't get which is interesting, partly because he's buff, and partly because she thinks it'd be kinky to make it with a blacksmith. (On the anvil???)

    Interview: Oct 4th, 2005

    Robert Jordan

For Mr. Mashadar, I think Faile's reaction is perfectly reasonable. Here she is thinking that Perrin may just be Mr. Right, and then this sultry floozy waltzes in and starts trying to put the moves on him. Berelain even says right out that she'll take him away from Faile. Even without that, Faile has plenty of reason to consider Berelain a floozy and essentially worthless. After all, from what she knows, Berelain has tried putting the moves on not only Perrin, but also Rand and quite likely Rhuarc. She can't be inside Berelain's head to know that Berelain uses sex and her reputation as political tools. So why would she want to be chums with Berelain?

    Interview: Oct 6th, 2005

    Robert Jordan

For Lord of Salvation, I'm sorry to hear that you had to become a refugee. I hope you plan on returning to help rebuild. My brother teaches at West Jefferson High School.

Also, Moiraine did enter the Rhuidean doorframe ter'angreal. That's the one that caught fire and melted after she and Lanfear passed through together. Berelain certainly knows of the Tear doorframe, but she has never entered it.

    Interview: Oct 19th, 2010

    John Ottinger

In The Gathering Storm there is much focus on the present moment in time, but part of the genius of Jordan was his historical background. Will the history of the WOT world have any effect on its future? (particularly the descendents of Artur Hawkwing?)

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.
