    Interview: Apr 20th, 2004

    Week 7 Question

I would like to ask about knotting a weave. Does a channeler determine how long it will last when she knots it or is it dependent on her strength? If a channeler who knotted a weave died, would the weave dissipate immediately?

    Robert Jordan

The length of time the knot lasts is the choice of whoever makes the knot. It is not strength dependent. And the knot would continue in existence if the channeler died, at least if the channeler had not set it to unravel in a certain time. Remember, tying off a weave is a way to keep the weave in existence without having to actually channel to maintain it, so once it is tied off, there is really no need for the channeler to continue living for the weave to be maintained.

    Interview: Jul 19th, 2005

    Week 7 Question

Since the first few books, Rand's and Perrin's dreams have been protected. Rand can weave a ward around his dreams. Perrin being a wolfbrother has protected his dreams. How have Mat's dreams been protected since the first half of the series?

    Robert Jordan

A side effect of his foxhead medallion, though he doesn't know it. This was not part of the intended purpose of making the medallion; it's a true side effect.

    Interview: Oct 19th, 1994

    Compuserve Chat (Verbatim)

    Sharon Perdue

Did Egwene as Amyrlin happen to be watching people's dreams while Rand was shielded?

    Robert Jordan

I'm not quite sure I understand the question. Again?

    Sharon Perdue

Since Rand was shielded and couldn't form any wards on his dreams could Egwene have spied out that he was in trouble while in Tel'aran'rhiod?

    Robert Jordan

Ah. Yes, she could have. The problem is, when you've learned that something is impossible, you have a tendency to stop trying it. She just didn't try to spy during the period in question.

    Interview: Jan 14th, 1997

    Thomas Howard

    1. What do Rand's wards on Callandor ward against exactly?

    2. Are the black cords on male Forsaken the means to access to the True Power?

    3. If so, why don't the female Forsaken have them?

    Robert Jordan

"Read and find out" on all three counts.

    THOMAS HOWARD

Damn. I still don't think the cords have anything to do with True Power usage though.

    Interview: Apr 17th, 2011

    Terez

Will we ever learn what went wrong when Narishma went to fetch Callandor?

    Brandon Sanderson

Um...perhaps. (Terez laughs.) Was that one of yours?

    Terez

    Yes, that was.

    Brandon Sanderson

    I didn’t answer it, but I didn’t RAFO it.

    Terez

    Yeah. It’s all good.

    Interview: Dec 17th, 2011

    Loialson

Is the glow in Rand's head that Nynaeve sees upon delving Rand linked to the nature of him being ta'veren, or because of the nature of him being the Dragon?

    Brandon Sanderson

(laughs) I'm gonna RAFO that one.

    Interview: Apr, 2012

    Luckers

Do the Forsaken know the weaves Elza used to break the warding Cadsuane placed on the Domination Band?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.

    LUCKERS

So, why didn’t they use it on wardings Rand placed on Callandor, and the other things they’ve wanted that were warded earlier in the series?

    BRANDON SANDERSON

*stares at me for a long moment, thoughtfully* They may not have know them then. The thing is... we don’t see a lot of the Shadow innovating with the Power, unlike with the Light, but they have been. As much as the Light. But they know, now. The notes definitely say this.

    Interview: Apr, 2012

    Luckers

Okay, so the warding on the Great Holding in Tear... it’s just, Moiraine, Mat, Rand, the Wonder Girls, all come and go with ease, yet Mesaana speaks of there being a nasty warding that stopped her getting in, and there is no sign that Be’lal... I mean, why wouldn’t Be’lal have taken the fat man angreal?

    Brandon Sanderson

*nodding before I finished* MAFO. That was something I was going to look into myself, because it stumped me during my last re-read. I never got round to it... you haven’t seen the size of the pile of notes, they are huge, and most of my time... I have to give over to things that are involved in what I’m working on. Sometimes though, I do just go into them purely for fan interest.

    Luckers

I would love to have an afternoon alone with the notes. *another fan nods fervently*

    Maria Simons

It is my understanding that Rand put that warding on when he was getting ready to leave Tear. As for Be’lal . . . well, he was one of the Chosen; what need had he of an angreal to go up against an untrained sheepherder? That’s my best guess, anyway.

    Interview: Feb 22nd, 2013

    J. Dauro

Do we know anything on how they managed to create the wards on Callandor, and attune them to Rand?

    Brandon Sanderson

    I don't.

    J. Dauro

Then I guess I'll have to ask Maria at JordanCon.
