taying Sane

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: What will Cadsuane teach Rand and the Asha'man?

This concerns what Cadsuane has to teach the Ashaman. Someone mentioned earlier that it said the men Cadsuane dealt with stayed sane longer and this isn't quite accurate. What they are mentioning was listed in the glossary and it mentioned the fact that the men Cadsuane had captured lived much longer after having been gentled. She knows about the voices that the men who channel here and I think what she has to teach them deals with that. One of mens viewings that had a big impact on Rand was one in which she said something to the effect of "I saw someone try and take over your body, you must fight that because one of you will truimph and the other will die." This was proof to him that the voices were real and I think he may have it right for once. That Cadsuane knows about the voices tell me she can teach the Ashaman how to either accept and embrace thier past lives, or how to fight the voices. This build's on Eric Codner's prolapse theory of male channelers and the fact that Rand often channels in ways he doesn't understand and weaves weaves that have been lost since the breaking. Or to be totally insane maybe she convinces them to gentle and then let the women heal them before the last battle, seeing as they don't lose power like the women do and that that would keep them sane. Of course I think the only reason women lose power after being healed is because Nynaeve made the mistake of using the same weave that worked on men on the women. that goes against all we have been told about power theory in the book. She bridged logain with fire and spirit, maybe she should have used air or water and spirit on the women. (sorry for being so long winded).

I would tend to lean more towards your ideas, then some of the ones I have heard here. The voices are the most important part of what she tells Rand. She knows. She knows they hear them, she knows these voices tell them what to do, she knows the voices must be stopped in order for them to stay sane. The only way she knows how to get rid of the voices is through gentling...but maybe there is another way.
