omething Really Strange is Going On

by Shaq: 1998-06-10 | Not yet rated

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: What Has Happened to Moiraine?

Moirane is probably alive, (just too much evidence exists to the contrary) but I have questions. Why was Lan's bond severed as if she had died? I doubt RJ did it to set up the fairytail wedding in ACoS! She went through another gateway to Finnland and nothing of the sort happened--otherwise Lan would have had to leave for Myrelle in Tear. And why does everyone just assume she's dead? Every character seems to think that if you go through a redstone doorway with Lanfear and some angreals, you're toast. Moirane is tough, and there are all those veiwings and nuances, but even Min thinks she is gone. Thom certainly shows none of the faith Moirane had for him (remember all the "Thom is not dead" from the first two books?). There is something strange afoot here, and my guess is that she'll come back (more than one character can die and live again?) but in a way that no one expects. I think that RJ likes Moirane as a character, and her reentrance will be a scene to remember.

I agree, the events are to suspicious to believe that moiraine went to her death bed, she knew what was going to happen. And she planned it perfectly. She will be back.

In response to Shaqs question about Lans bond severing. In tear, the doorway was not destroyed, and so there was a link between the worlds. Tis was gone when she fell through the other one. If youve seen Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, its like the problem they had with communications to the Gamma Quadrant, only in reverse. You see, when the wormwhole was closed, comm signals couldnt get through, because there was no gateway. Then, the asteriod left a small trail of whatever and the wormhole never completely closed again, so the comm signals could get through. With the doorway, there was a passageway, so Lan could still sense Moiraine, but when the doorway was destroid the opening was gone so the link was severed, like a piece of string. It goes through the gateway, but when the door is destroyed, the string is cut off.
