Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Rand, Alanna and the Bond

As someone else has already stated I have to believe that the bond is a result of Rand being taveren. When Rand was Captured by the White Tower Aes Sedai it was the bond that led Alanna to find Rand in the wilderness between Cairhein and Tar Valon. You might ask why this is important when Perrin Would have found him anyway? It is important because Alanna brought with her all of the Aes Sedai that knelt and swore fealty to Rand at Dumai's Well. The fact that they swore fealty and the way LOC ended both show that it was an important event that never would have occurred if Alanna had not bonded Rand. How else could she have found him? Also, call me a fool, but I like to believe in a person until they have given me a reason to do otherwise. While Alanna is secretive, I don't see any reason why she would have evil intent.

Very true, thanks to Alanna, Rand now has Aes Sedai sworn solely to him. And I would say that her bond kept him alive after Fain sliced him. So you have a valid point about what good it has done to have it. But I would never underestimate an Aes Sedai...

We need to know what the bond is and how it is created. We know some of what it does. I think bonding is based on the concept of Linking. Just like the A'dam, which is a forced linking. The A'dam could be more powerful then bonding because of a physical connection through the braclet and a few other differences.

But what if it isn't. What if they are identical. That would explain why Elayne was able to figure out the bonding method, after she studied the A'dam. This would mean Aes Sedai have more control over the Gaidin then we know. After all Lan was forced to go to (What's her face) after Morainne took the big jump to Limbo. Lan doesn't seem the type to be led by the nose, unless your name is Nynave. Perhaps the method for linking to a male channler is different then for a female, which would explain why men have a slight problem with the A'dam Now, if the bond is a type of persistent link this would have ramifications that present age Aes Sedai probably don't know about. At one of the meetings between Grendeal and Sammeal, the reference was made to the effect that when a man and woman link she has to give control of the link to the man. This bit of knowledge has probably been lost since the last time a male and female linked was, 3000 yrs ago.

I think this is why the bond isn't working according to plan. As for why Alanna Bonded Rand, I agree with the point that he is Ta'veren.

It was no accident because him being ta'veren and everything is making sure that the Pattern is keeping him alive until the Last Battle. Okay now what do bonds do to people? They help them survive. I believe that this is one of the reasons that Rand has fought off the Taint for so long. And also that he survived the stabbing of Padan Fain.

Many have recently written in with this suggestion, that Rand's ta'vereness pulled her to do so. I guess that you have a good case because it helped especially with the wound to keep him alive, but I know that RJ planned for this one since TGH, so I am warry to think that it couldn't have been setup by someone else.
