..he shall bind the north with the east, and the west shall be tied to the south..."

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Prophecies, Foretellings, and Talents

I just came accross a line in aCoS (I was re-reading it again) anyway it deals with the Prophecies of the Dragon. Rand is talking to Min and says something like this "..he shall bind the north with the east, and the west shall be tied to the south..." that's the important part anyway. He goes on to gloat that he is going to unify the world (He is becoming really cocky lately he needs to be beat rather hard) Anyway, the thing that stuck out in my mind was the fact that it blatently says he will unite the east with the north, however there is a break and it just says that the west shall be tied to the south. It doesn't say that our hero will rule them however. It came to me that maybe this means that while Rand has control over the east and north, theSeanchan will rule the west and south. If this is so thatn Tarmon Gai'don is right around the corner (I'd guess book nine) because Rand pretty much has the east and north. He has Tear, Caihien,Andor, Illian, and the four borderlands are all but his, as well as Ghealdan. While the Seanchan have Tarabon, Amadacia, and Altara. All that's left is Murandy, and Arad Doman. So, I think by the end of book8 the world will be divided up between Rand and the Seanchan and that there will be some kind of Alliance between them. This was longer than I thought it would be. Peace favor your swords.

I agree with your assessment on this viewing. And I disagree with anyone that thinks that somehow Mat will take over and they will all join hands and play duck duck goose.

I think is wrong in a small sense he said that he thought "It doesn't say that our hero will rule them however. It came to me that maybe this means that while Rand has control over the east and north, the Seanchan will rule the west and south." Yet Rand read a profecy that said the "Dragon will split the Continent with his blade" and Nicola's fortelling said "The land divided by the return" The land being divided by the return is obvious, the Seanchan is the return. and them spliting the land is them taking over part of the continent. Yet the proffecy said Rand would split the continent, not the return, and so it is my theory that for a time only will the seanchan control the south and west, but Rand will manipulate the Seanshan through fear or whatever and somehow hand control of the S and W to Mat, who will be married to the daughter of the nine moons, who I think is Seanchan roality. And he will split the East and N to Perrin, who is quite vissible among the Tairens, Cairiehn and the Andorian Nobles, so they will accept him. The split in the south i think will be about the west border of illlian to Saldea, to the eastern edge of the border of Saldea.

Okay, it's 3:45 in the morning, so I don't have any page numbers offhand, but here goes. Rand conquers the entire continent, and splits it into two territories (to stop all the nationalistic bickering). He divides them with a diagonal line, fulfilling the prophecies about "He shall bind the North to the East, and the West to the South." Or whatever that prophecy was. Perrin is going to be king over one of these territories, Probably the one to the north. The Borderland people will accept him because of his ties to Saldea and the "Broken Crown." The ruler over the other territory will either be Elayne,or that Tairen High Lord that Min saw the crown over. Sorry, can't think of his name offhand. Anyway, that's my own idea. Let me know if it holds water, or leaks like a sieve.

Jess, my one comment would be that Rand will never be able to conquer the entire continent. The Prophet, Whitecloaks, Rebel Asha'man, two White Towers, and the Seanchan to name most of the big players will not let that happen. I fear he will go to Tarmon Gaidon while the world is still in great conflict. As to the interpretation of the text I haven't given it a huge amount of thought. Whomever he binds it will be alot different than you or I think.
