Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Is Sammael Dead?

Well, poor little Sammael was in Shadar Logath, waiting beside a waygate that we know is closed. Rand prepares to throw Balefire at him when he hears a scream, and instead of obliterating Sammael, he destroys Liah. and cuts the Balefire down to where Sammael had been, but now there is only a wave of Mashadar. I don't really think that Sammael had time to open the Waygate, and Rand didn't feel a Gateway open, so that leaves three options. The First is that Sammael is dead, I don't like this one, if he is it is a terrible way to kill off a major opponent. He could be ressurected, but that is getting old now and I'd hate it. The Second is that he used the True Power to open a Gateway, this is all- right, but why didn't he kill Rand? We know that The Dark One wants Rand alive right now (Let the Lord of Chaos Rule) so possibly Sammael didn't kill him because of this. The third option is that Mashadar consumed but didn't kill him. Remember that Mashadar didn't kill Fain because he had been touched by the Dark One (that's according to Moiraine in Book 2) Well Sammael has been a little more than touched by the DO, he has been claimed he has a direct connection, (the Black Cord)so why would Mashadar kill him? Just a long rammbling thought that I had to share. By the Way I like the last best.

I would have to agree that if he was dead and the DO resurrected him that would suck, those that have been are quite enough. But I think we are forgetting one thing...Sammael plans meticulously and it seems as though he had this one planned from the beginning. So maybe he had some way out that RJ didn't mention to us other than the ones we know of that you have pointed out here?
