holams and gateways

by Mumaw: 2004-07-13 | Not yet rated

Previous Categories: Miscellaneous Theories

Gholams can use gateways. While weaves of the One Power dissapate upon contact with a gholam, this does not mean they cannot travel through a gateway. The actual weaves form an empty circle around the opening, rather than a filled in one. Proof of this comes to us from LoC Ch 33, when Mat and his his medallion travel through Rand's gateway. If the foxhead medallion can go through a gateway, so too could a gholam. That is, or course, unless there is something else we don't know, which might also explain why we've never seen trollocs or myrdraal make use of one.

(Frenzy for Tamrylin)
eerie. We're discussing this now (september 2004) on the boards, yet this was submitted back in July.
The logic here is sound. It'll hold up, assuming the gholam and the foxhead medallian work in a similar manner. And so far we've yet to see them not.

Further evidence....Asmo told Rand that the OP has little to do with gateways other than the making. And Rand's own observation of the weave of the gateway. The male gateway bores a hole basically opening a gap in the threads of the pattern. The OP pushes open the gap but isnt within the gap itself. I agree, Gholams can almost definitely use gateways.

didn't realise there was still debate on this ;)

incidentally, although we haven't seen Trollocs and Fades using gateways, aren't we fairly certain they can? I'm thinking the way they turn up abruptly in the Stone of Tear and the waste... I think probably the reason we haven't seen it happen is more because: a) the forsaken have more important things to think about, and b) if they did start travelling trolloc hordes into major cities it would have made the plot very short and uninteresting...

ok, other theories have been debating how to kill a gholam... why not open a skimming gateway and push the gholam through? maybe a few chapters later, RJ can even visit the gholam for some comic relief (as in write about the thoughts in the gholams head as it falls forever)

Mat's medallion to me is not proof of gholams able to use gateways.

A better argument for the theory would be the scene in A Crown of Swards Chapter 38. Though we can not be certain how it got to that top floor. (It seemed to not have used the stairs.)
