hat is the True Power??

Here is my little theory regarding the TP.

I think it is the ability to channel Both saidar and saidin at the same time...hence the name true power b4 it was split between males and females...that is why the Gholam could almost sense it..like an itch..it felt different yet familiar.

I don't think so. The gholam's ability to detect it, through the itch, suggests that it was made as a construct of one power or the anti-thesis of the one power. But the True Power can't be felt by channelers, which suggests that it can't be Saidin or Saidar. Also the BWB suggests that the One Power and True Power are different powers. It also suggests that there is a source of One Power that exists independent of the True Power and that it is the source to move the Wheel...so why would the Creator use a power that is split off of another power which is of the DO if he created it all in the first place? Just some thoughts... :)

I think that the true power is simply the power of the dark one. The only people we know of who can use it are those bound to the dark one (ie: the forsaken) by the black cords that Rand sometimes sees. Also consider Ishamael in TDR (he screams "Aid me!" and the darkness around him grows; most people assume that he was using the TP during his fight with Rand). Finally, RJ has made it very clear that Myrdraal cannot channel, but Shadar Haran appearantly can--he burns a spear to ash in ACoS. This leads me to believe that the TP is completely independant of the OP and stems directly from the DO. (Feel free to contradict me)

Umm... the TP (giggle) was what Lanfear and Ishamael performed the Bore for in the first place. When Rand is getting his Dragons, one of his past lives talks about how "Mierin" had found a new power that men and women could both use. It definitely IS the Dark One's. Only Darkfriends call it the "True" power.

No it wasnt Lanfear and Ishamael. It was Lanfear, even though she hadnt turned to the DO yet, and Beidomen (sp). They drilled the Bore. The backlash destroyed the research institute and ALanfear was one of the few survivors. She then turned to the DO. She had NO, repeat, NO! idea that the TP was connected to the DO in anyway.

Yes, Lanfear simply states that they have found a new Source that both women and men can draw on. I still beleive Lanfear didn't know what she was doing, and was involuntarily turned by the opening of the bore and the flood of dark power coming from it.
