he Chick on the cover of Winter's Heart

by Brian: 2000-12-08 | Not yet rated

Previous Categories: Moiraine: Where is She Now?

When I first saw the cover of Winder's Heart I noticed a striking similarity between the women on one horse and Moraine. If you look closely, see has a fairly thin body with a pendant of a sort on her neck, and blue eyes. Moraine had a small body, blue eyes, and a pendant she always wore on her forehead or in her hair. Furthuremore, if compared with the figuer on the cover of tEotW, one can see that they both have similare faces and similar staffs. On the other hand, the figuer on tEotW does appear to have much larger breasts (possible because of the heavy coat and snow gear the other is wearing). When I saw this I thought for sure it meant Moraine would come back into the story, but then I finished reading it and realized she did not. In the last chapter, one of the many people trying to get to the hilltop made a brief comment "this is almost as bad as when I was captured by the Allefin and the Elffin" or something very close. Since we all know that Lanfer was captured by the same, it is reasonable to beleive that she somehow escaped. Mabee Moraine did too and we just don't know yet. It is possible that Moraine was freed, yet mascarading as someone else, but who? Or mabee, Lanfer just died and the Dark One brought her back. I then thought that this might supposed to be cadsuane, but to my knolage she never rode with the Band of the Red Hand (the red and blue flag is obviously that of Manetheran, leeding me to believe this is the Band). Another possibility is that the illustrater only knows how to draw one type of woman (he has screwed up with the artwork before, and could have done it again). I might just be overannalizing the picture, and just really want to see the return of moraine (like the return of Gandor in the Legend of the Rings, after he falls into the chasm). I would like like to hear some feedback, so plz feel free (and im sorry i dont have any exact quotes or pagenumbers or such, but this is my first theory I've but up)

I am assuming that the woman on the horse that you describe is Berelain since the other major characters were taken captive in PoD. But it would make sense that Moiraine is out of finnland

You said, "I then thought that this might supposed to be cadsuane, but to my knolage she never rode with the Band of the Red Hand (the red and blue flag is obviously that of Manetheran, leeding me to believe this is the Band). The picture on the cover represents Perrin, Gaul, Elyas, and Berelaine, with the rest of Perrin's Two Rivers task force wrapped around to the back of the book.

The cover artist, Darrell K. Sweet, is IMHO, a very poor choice. His drawings of humans is usually very poorly done, with poor proportions and little relation to the characters descriptions.

The Band of the Red Hand does NOT, BTW, fly the Red Eagle banner of Manetherin -- They only fly the banner of the Red Hand, with unit markers for the individual units within the band.

All else being said about this, i would just like to say... Moiraine had dark eyes, like every other Cairhienen
