ews Therin/Premonitions?

by Taigan: 2003-06-07 | Not yet rated

Previous Categories: Miscellaneous

While rereading LOC, I noticed that Lews Therin rants and raves about friends betraying him when Perrin shows up. I know there is another one, but the quote I found actually came when Perrin left the room, after just seeing Rand the first time after arriving from the Two Rivers. Min returned and started to tell Rand about her viewings of Perrin and Rand together. "Shut up! he shouted at Lews Therin. Go away! You're dead! It had no effect; it often did not now. That voice went on mumbling, maybe about being betrayed by friends, maybe about betraying them."

We have yet to see if Perrin will betray Rand, but I think he will since Lews Therin was also right about Taim. From the very first time Rand meets Taim, Lews Therin wants to kill him. He always repeats the same ideas of killing him. Maybe Lews is also right about breaking the seals?

It would be interesting to go back and write down everything that Lews Therin says, but I am not sure why we should view LTT as anything but another personality of Rand's soul...therefore, why would it have special powers of divination? But, it may be Jordan's way of foreshadowing a few events. I always counted the Taim remarks and others about male channelers to be left over from the days in which all males went mad after the Sealing. Interesting idea.

I think it would be more likely that Mat betrayed Rand then Perrin (even though either of them betraying Rand sounds really dumb to me but whatever), since the Portal Stone lives and Mat talking to Rand saying how he would never betray him, and TEOTW scene when Arignor points to Mat for following him because of **old friend, old enemy**.

of course he is right about breaking the seals. the dark one cannot be fought while they are still intact... by chosing when to break the last seal Rand will have the most important advantage; the choice of WHEN.

Yeah...LTT was right about Taim, but what about Flinn, Morr, Narishma and all the rest of the asha'man loyal to me (Rand)?? LTT wants to kill all male channelers and wants to stay as far as possible from female channelers...him being right about Taim was pure luck.

"by chosing when to break the last seal Rand will have the most important advantage; the choice of WHEN. " -Mairashda

True, he'll have the choice of when, when he'll break it, but isn't it said that cuendillar is unbreakable, we're not even sure how the ones that are broken broke, how is he supposed to break the last one? i think all he can do is keep them safe until he feels himself ready to fiht, then he'll just give the seals to some darkfriends...lol..thatw as a stupid thought....but worth the shot....right?

I've always thought that ALL the seals grew increasingly susceptible to external stress and damage:

the seal nynaeve and elayne found in tanchico broke during their travels to salidar. more important is a scene where somebody (can't remember, sorry) took a knive and chipped a small bit off one of the seals...

One of Min's viewings, I can't remember where, is that Perrin's presence will hurt Rand very severely, but it's necessary because without Perrin's presence at that moment Rand will die.

Jordanian said, "Perrin's presence will hurt Rand very severely, ...without Perrin's presence at that moment Rand will die. "

Congratulations, Jordanian. I don't think I've ever seen that pair of Min's viewings mangled even close to as badly you managed.

A quick summary of two viewings from LOC:

Twice aes sedai or women who can channel witll hurt Rand badly.

Twice Perrin will need to be with RAnd or he will be hurt.

Perrin's presence might not stop Rand from getting hurt, but it will be much worse if he's not around.

There is no mention of Perrin hurting rand, or even serious injury to Rand in the viewing -- just "hurt" and someone like Semirhage or Moghedien can do that without touching him or leaving a mark.

From the WOT FAQ about Mins Viewings in LoC:

[LOC: 41, A Threat, 532]

"I saw an aura around you [Rand] in the throne room. Aes Sedai are going to hurt you. Women who can channel, anyway. It was all confused; I'm not sure about the Aes Sedai part. But it might happen more than once."

Then later on...:

[LOC: 46, Beyond the Gate, 578-9]

"When you two [Rand and Perrin] were together, I saw those fireflies and the darkness stronger than ever.... But with two of you in the same room, the fireflies were holding their own instead of being eaten faster than they can swarm, the way they do when you're alone. Twice he's going to have to be there, or you [Rand]...." "If he's not, something bad will happen to you." "Very bad." Rand: "Then I'll just have to keep him around." Min: "I don't know that that will be enough, it will happen if he is not there, but nothing I saw said it won't because he is. It will be very bad, Rand."

The first time was definatly Dumais Wells. The second is most likely a trap by Suroth and involves the sad braclets Nynaeve and Elayne took from Tanchico now in Suroths control.

Jordanian : " One of Min's viewings, I can't remember where, is that Perrin's presence will hurt Rand very severely, but it's necessary because without Perrin's presence at that moment Rand will die. "

that's in Lord Of Chaos...when Perrin comes back from the Two Rivers.

Flinn: 2003-06-16

I think it's very possible for Perrin to betray Rand, but not to the Shadow or anything. Faile is still a shaido prisoner and Perrin has said repeatedly that he'll do anything to get her back. Maybe Rand will give him an order that conflicts with this, and Perrin won't follow it for his wife's sake

Rand-althor: 2003-06-16

What if what would hurt Rand was Dumais Wells. It hurt Rand to learn that some of the people dieing for him were Two Rivers boys he had known, but without Perrin there, he would have been taken to Tar Valon, where the Black would certrianly kill him.

13

Callandor: 2003-06-17

I think being in the box hurt Rand more then the Two Rivers boys dying. He's still going nuts about never being in a box again.

Just an idea dn i could find no where else to post it, so here goes.

I think this LTT personality is Ishy, maybe not directly, but his control somehow indirectly. Becoz it says Ishy made LTT sane after the sealing to torment him, so why is he loony now. Note Ishy is the only definitly crazy channeler around. Also, it would explain why he tells him all these bad, although sometimes good things.

But my main part of the theory is, when Ishy and Rand first fought, Rand had to Sheath the Sword or whatever, to kill him. Maybe this was when Rand picked up a bit of Ishy, and also why The D.O. wants the Lord of Chaos to rule. This third personality might be the real LTT come to help Rand in the Final battle by filling in key information, but first Alivia must help Rand die (or really LTT/Ishy. Than after faking his death for many reasons, Logain claims glory of being new Dragon and leading Black Tower. (but Logain and Rand are really in cohoots) Egwene and Logain join Towers, and Aes Sedai symbol and many powerful numerous linking circles can be formed. And Rand can become a beggar remembering how to laugh and cry.

but all this is just a random theory, tear it apart if you will.

Callandor: 2003-12-13

I have already explained my reasons to why this theory is flawed, so I will just nitpick a bit here.

**But my main part of the theory is, when Ishy and Rand first fought, Rand had to Sheath the Sword or whatever, to kill him.**

That was the second fight they had; the first was in TEOTW and Rand "killed" Ishy with a sword of the Power.
