Verin is a very odd charater. She has made references to Perin involving his axe and hammer choice and seems to have a very unusual understanding of thing. There is some speculation about her being Black ajah and a darkfreind. But I think not. If people can be possessed by the dark one why cant a person be possessed by the light. My thinking is that Verin is an adjent for the light and is completely focosed on getting Rand to the last battle. The possession by the light would explain the great deal of wisdom and insight she has.

Well, her blatant use of compulsion doesn't seem like something the "light" side would be involved in. But I would agree she isn't black ajah. It has been suggested that she is working for a secret ajah which is an intriguing idea. She is mysterious, maybe this next book will give us more clues.

just a little thought, I think I read somewhere else, that if Dark and Light are taken to their extremes, they aren't so different...

Just an added thought. Verin used her minor compulsion on Elza Sedai, so it's safe to admit that she figured out she was a darkfriend. Why stay quiet about that? She also seemed a little shaken when Katerine escaped the Wise ones. Was she on to her being BA as well? Some might say that it takes one to know one but I think Verin is similar to Cadsuane in that she knows more of the Black Ajah then she should, yet works against them to much to be one

Verin also used compulsion on Aes Sedai who are known not to be black--she used it on all of the Aes Sedai who were captured at Dumai's wells. I've always wondered why she was so upset at Katerine escaping since she shouldn't have known Katerine was Black. Maybe she was suspicious or thought that Katerine had some sort of secret orders from the tower. Also, she may have just reasoned that Katerine was black because of the murders involved in her escape and the fact that any non-darkfriend would have no desire to free her.

Come on now. Any Aes Sedai from the Tower or BA can be seen as a threat to Rand.

In support of Vernon and Kenderlyn's beliefs that Verin is one of the Creator's chosen... (not that I personally believe it, but I don't think it can be ruled out... it seems too much like direct intervention on the creator's part...), what Kenderlyn said about good and evil taken to extremes is very true. I am writing a book that follows this theme (assuming I ever get off my butt) and if you step back for a moment and look, it is like this. Good and evil are both philosophies... codes of action if you will... and down at the core, if you dig deep enough, evil is just the value of freedom of self taken to the extreme. I don't want to open up a huge philosohpical debate here... but if anyone wants to continue it, go ahead, I have more to say, or you can do it privately by IMing me on aim at jhihgbreaker.

Yeah, so anyway... the idea here is that Verin, if she one of the creator's choosen, would do some things not normally allowed by the good philosophy to carry forward the Wheel. After all, zeal is generally considered a 'good' trait...

maybe Verin is a dreamer. she could dream the 'true dreams' and interpret them to have a great understanding of things, such as Perrin's axe and hammer choice. This would also explain maybe, that she searched through the library for information on dreaming when she first figured out that she was a dreamer. that would be cool. then Egwene wouldn't be the only dreamer thats Aes Sedai

Regarding Verin's origin, perhaps she is from another world and no, I don't mean an alien... Personally, one thing that always bugged me was her knowledge, especially of...portal stones....whos to say she didn't come from one of those worlds. Maybe one that lost its hope and now shes determined to make sure Rand wins TG. Thoughts?

Verin is such an interesting character. As far as her being "possessed" by the light or one of the creater's chosen... I don't know. Mind you, I'm just speculating, but it doesn't seem to fit with Jordan's notion of the "good guys" Jordan loves to stress how these people who are going to be heroes simpoly do what they feel the must or what they are forced to do through fate. It feels too... contrived to have the creator's secret chosen out there.

As far as Verin's knack for doing not so nice things, I agree with much of what's written above. After all, look at Elaida. Not a dark friend... just a jerk.

And a secret ajah? Fun idea.

Personally I love the thought floating out there that Verin is actually Corianne (Sp?) or whatever the name of the tower's last dreamer was. A fun intriguing idea, especially with her interactions with Egwene early in TDR. Vertainly dreaming would be a good way to stay on top of things in the world and have an idea of whats happening. And would support her knowledge of perrin as it was mentioned above.

Fun fun fun.

i believe the idea of the whole chosen of light. If the dark one can why not the good guy... Anyone ever read dragonlance, war of the lance, the chosen of paladine were the heroe sof the lance. He could not directly interfere but he gave them the silver pool the good dragons and led them to gods home. not only that but he helped out with tanis and caramon and steel brightblade... high chlerists tower. i guess my point is that evil folds in upon itself and that is hwy the dark one is aloud to interfere. the chosen do fold in upon themselves
