Previous Categories: The Last Battle

To me it is clear what Robert Jordan is doing. Not exactly what his end is, but he is definately working a pattern that he wants us to see, even if he is doing his best to hide it. Its simply this, he started the last scene in the first book, somehow his last scene will connect greatly with many of the happenings in the first book. the most important thing in the first book though is this: Min's veiwing of the first book on page 182. She says "i see lightning around you, some striking at you and some coming out of you." and on pg 181 "when you are all in a group? sparks swirling around you, thousands of them, and a big shadow, darker than midnight. Its so strong, I almost wonder why everybody can't see it. The sparks are trying to fill the shadow, and the shadow is trying to swallow the sparks. YOU ARE ALL TIED TOGETHER in something dangerous. . ." and when nynaeve showed up, the direct reference to Moiraine being a part of the last battle: on page 194, "She's part of it, right along with the rest of you." "the sparks Rand. She met mistress Alys(moiraine) coming in, and there were sparks with just the two of them. yesterday I couldn't see sparks without at least three or four of you together, but today its all sharper and more furious."

all of the main characters in that inn in Berloyn(sp?) must be there for the last battle, its not just Rand, its all of them, and Moiraine along with Nynaeve are grand parts in it. I think the long books between book one and that final scene are building up the "why" they need to be there. each character is learning things that he/she needs to know for those last moments.

Tamyrlin: 2003-03-11

I would agree in theory that Jordan was much more blatant in Book 1. His foreshadowings were very obvious. So are you saying that those who rode forth from the Two Rivers will be the same group who will take part in the actual last battle? That makes sense, although, taking into account Jordan's sense of irony, I wouldn't be surprised if there were traitors, or other such changes in the group. There experiences will change them so much that they will be much more divided than ever when it comes. Look at Rand and Egwene, they are so divided at this moment. Interesting thought.

I agree that the characters will know they must be at the Last Battle. But I think some will have to make terrible decisions to make it there, and that as Tamyrlin suggests, some will choose to abandon Rand. Think Perrin having to leave Faile with Sevanna. As for Moiraine, it's still possible she played her part, and is no longer required, despite everyone being tied together.

Moiraine is most likely still needed for TG. Remember that Min had a viewing that "he [Rand] would almost certainly fail without a woman who was dead and gone." Ignoring some claims that this woman is Lanfear, it almost has to be Moiraine. Since we're assuming that Rand will win, this kind of hints that she will show up. Also, her "death" was too convenient--no body, no one actually seeing her die; as far as anyone can prove, she's merely cut off from the world. Also, immediately after her battle with Lanfear, Rand tells Amys that Moiraine is dead. She replies "You are a fool Rand al'Thor. About this, and many other things." With most people, this quote wouldn't indicate anything one way or the other, but since Amys is a dreamer I take it to mean that she dreamed that Moiraine would somehow survive the battle with Lanfear and return to help Rand.

Hmm...

No proof of this, just a thought.

What if Cyndane and Fain are similar? Fain = Padan+Dark One taint+Mordeth

What if...

Cyndane=Lanfear+Moiraine?

And, right now (perhaps due to the mindtrap? Or Shaidar's influence?) the Lanfear side has total control. But what if the mindtrap were destroyed/Shaidar's influence broken?

Things becoming one seems to be a recurring theme.

A quick comment on the original theory, concerning the make-up of those present at the LB. I have a niggling suspicion that Rand is at some point going to have to fight - and maybe kill - Lan. So much has been made of their "stony" hearts and will to do what is necessary etc, that I just get the impression RJ is building up to an emotional showdown. The only things that have caused tension between the two are Moiraine (in EotW - "I'm not sure if you're worth it (Moiraine's suffering) sheepherder") and now Nynaeve. Rand and Nynaeve are v. close (mother-son relationship) but Lan will not stand for Rand putting her in danger. Or Moiraine - if she comes back, possibly evil? If Rand does so, and ends up fighting en enraged or grief-stricken Lan as a consequence, killing him, Nynaeve could in turn be overcome with grief and strike out at Rand, threatening the success of the LB. Lots of ifs and buts I know, but I think RJ will definitely wind up with lots of infighting. I think Rand will survive (if only because it's too predictable for him to die) but other casualties will occur. Perrin for instance places Faile's safety above the needs of Rand, and the world. Rand will not stand for this either...

If RJ makes Moiraine come back evil: Id go crazy.

If Rand battles Lan: Id go crazy.

Lan protects Nyneave like crazy because he loves her and is her Warder to boot. He wants Nyneave safe but knows she wont go for being couped up in a stronghold for her life so he has to protect her, just doesnt like her in dangerous situations.

All in all if RJ did that the series in my mind would go from excellent to crap in .04 seconds.

Callondor i agree whole hearteldy besides RJ loves his chars to much i think to make such sevre infighting so i think there may be disagreements but i do not think anywhere to this extent

Mairan Sedai: 2003-04-30

There's enough traitors and backstabbing as it is... the Forsaken, the BA among the Aes Sedai, etc., etc. The original Fellowship of the Random People Who Left the Two Rivers That Night ;-) will FINALLY come together on the side of the Light, and they all lived happily ever after, except for those incidental huge wars and conflicts we've been told about...
