hat was the Question?

Previous Categories: The Last Battle

I have finally started going through the WOT books with a fine tooth comb. While re-reading TGH I found this ... (Watchers) Moiraine asks Vandene some questions. One of the answers she gets is "The hate that killed Shadar Logoth was hate they thought to use against the Dark One; it would destroy shadowspawn as surely as it would kill those who walk in the light." The Question being How do we (those in Randland) defeat the Dark One.
Just as Shadar Logoth was used to cleanse saidin, Fain and/or the dagger can be used to kill Shaidar Haran, whom Alviarin calls "the Great Lord, clothed in the skin of a Myrddraal".(COT-A Mark)In the next paragraph Shadar Haran drops his Myrddraal armor and is then wearing black silk or leather and he is channeling (Mesaana wrapped in bands of black fire). I believe that Shadar is the embodiment of the Dark One and he will face Rand at the Last Battle. Now how we get Fain and the dagger to the LB I have no clue. Here it is. Chew it up, spit it out, tell me what you think.

(Frenzy for Tamyrlin)
Someone just pointed out to me that using evil to defeat evil usually comes back to haunt you. Aridhol was haunted for over 2000 years because of it. You have a practical theory here, but i'm not sure it'll be such a clean way to do it. The cure may be worse than the disease.

Yep, sounds decent, but I agree with Frenzy - unforseen consequences. I'm sure they'll all be around towards the end, but whether we ever see a Fain-SH fight is another matter.

(chuckles) I personally think Fain will be used as the new 'seal'

A lot of people think it will be Fain who will defeat SH at the last battle.

Maybe he'll do both. Or maybe the clue to defeating the Dark One will be found in the moment of Fains dying.

Probably doesn't help this theory :)

**I believe that Shadar is the embodiment of the Dark One and he will face Rand at the Last Battle.**

The entire series has really set up Rand vs. Ishamael/Moridin. Unless RJ goes for supertwist, or a second fight with Rand vs. Shaidar Haran, it doesn't seem likely.

My personal belief is that Rand defeats Ishamael/Moridin, and Fain kills Shaidar Haran (it actually works out best if Shaidar Haran tries to fight Rand, and Fain kills him simply because he wants to kill Rand himself), then Fain stabs Rand in his side (wounded side), and then Rand OD's on saidin just like Lews Therin did in The Eye of the World.

a little off topic but hey...

i was thinking along the same line as Snakes n Foxes. what if Fain became a immortal, walking seal, doomed to wander the earth. he could be the Fisher King. is there anything that specifically says Rand has to be the Fisher King?

RJ has mentioned at various times that Fain isn't covered by the Web of Lives which Ta'Vareen manipulate, because he has found a sort of "backdoor" to Fate.

This outcome of Fain playing a role in Rand's destiny sounds a lot like fate for Fain to be involved.
