An Hour With Harriet

2012-04-30: I had the great pleasure of speaking with Harriet McDougal Rigney about her life. She's an amazing talent and person and it will take you less than an hour to agree.

aimandred and his Dreadlords

Previous Categories: Demandred and His Proxies

Ok, We know Dashiva was one of the other forsaken destroyed ... I forget who he was exactly, but not one of the main cats (remember there were 13 total).

the "rebel" ashaman remembering their instructions

"Taim said "Kill Him!" ... Demandred shouted "Kill Him!" ..."

Ok, so its a bit circumspect to assume they both wanted Rand dead because they are the same person.

Ive seen the question been raised as why would Demandred show hundreds of men to channel

Dreadlords most likely.. His "faction" all seemed to hate rand.. He raises those who seem the most overambitious.. and we've seend dedicated who were the equivalent of Ashaman, so why hasn't Taim raised them so they can sit in on his private ashaman classes?

Just a thought feel free to argu

The idea that Taim and Demandred are the same person is one of the greatest theory battles that has taken place over the last five or six years. There are various clues, like the one you pointed out, that would suggest such a connection. But, at a recent signing for the last book, this theory was put to rest. RJ has specifically stated that Taim is not Demandred.

If Taim was one of Demandred's proxies though maybe compulsion...?

I believe that he also stated, that at the time (which i think was WH or thereabouts), that we had not met Demandred's alter ego, as we have with all the other forsaken.

There are several theories on who Demandred's proxies are, i suggest you read those and join a faction or submit a prediction. Or if you think you have new, solid evidence, pop over the message boards!

The quote from the question of the week was, "Question:

At recent book signing following the release of Crossroads of Twilight, it was reported that you confirmed that the Forsaken Demandred has never posed as the man known as Mazrim Taim, who was introduced to Rand at the beginning of Lord of Chaos. Have you confirmed that Demandred has never posed as the man known as Mazrim Taim, leader of the Black Tower?

Robert Jordan Answers:

Yes. Demandred has never posed as Mazrim Taim. All right, those of who fell over from the shock of a simple, straightforward answer can get up off the floor now. Sometimes, simple and straightforward can be the most devious of all, as any student of Aes Sedai will tell you. "

He is obviously more than hinting at something here, and i think i know what it is. When you look at his wording, he never says that Taim is not Demandred, he says that Demandred never POSED as Taim, and he seems to take great pleasure in hiding it in a simple word twist. Also, when you read book 2, you will notice that after we have seen that other Forsaken are free, Taim has suddenly declared himself the "Dragon Reborn". They happen at almost the exact same time. I think there is WAY too much coincidence for Taim not to be Demandred. And lets face it, anything that looks like a coincidence in TWoT, definitely isnt.

If Demandred were to be Taim, he would be using an alternate name, and hence, be posing as Taim. RJ has said he has not.

**Also, when you read book 2, you will notice that after we have seen that other Forsaken are free, Taim has suddenly declared himself the "Dragon Reborn". They happen at almost the exact same time. I think there is WAY too much coincidence for Taim not to be Demandred.**

In TEOTW, we are told of "troubles in Saldaea." This is never specified as something, but in the very next book, low and behold, a false Dragon. Coincidence that they are the same events? Very little. A book before the Forsaken are freed.

Also, as for the rest of the "evidence" for Taim being Demandred, it all falls flat on it's face, because Demandred had a clear view of Damer Flinn, the FIRST Asha'man tested by Taim himself with Rand, and he did not recognize him. A random Asha'man, sure, easy to forget; the first one that makes you remark about the chance of finding a male channeler to the Dragon Reborn, that is something totally different.

Also, if you wish to argue the logic and refute the interview, try this:

**Q: "It's been said that you mentioned that Mazrim Taim is not Demandred. There seems to be some confusion on whether or not you said that."

A: "Mazrim Taim is not Demandred."**

**Q: "Taim is clearly not Demandred, right?"

A: "I've said that before, and it's not Taim, it's Ta-eeem."**

Both quotes have been varified by multiple sources. Taim is NOT Demandred; get over it.

so what? demandred never posed as taim, thats fine. it doesnt mean that dem hasnt been manipulating the hell out of taim which would give rise to the tricky aes sedai answer.

charliec: 2004-04-18

And yet Taim let himself get captured... was that part of Demandred's plan? Demandred later seems to be on fairly high standing with the DO, which would be surprising given such a major failure.

Taim is not Demandred
