Or at least, that's what I hear. There's a lot of old WoT stuff on geocities we should probably replicate. I can do a lot of it in google docs when school lets out (I have a week left), but I know Thus Spake is there (and maybe some other stuff - I will have to look later). Most of it's in my interview database, but that's still the only surviving internet source for a few things, so it should probably be transferred somewhere whole.

Does anyone still talk to Raina, the girl that put it together? I would hate for there to be issues of fan ownership in backing it up on another site (like google docs).

ah, the original my space of the interwebz goes buh-bye. The first TL was on geocities, iirc.

Yeah, I saw it. It's kind of annoying.

I wonder if I should bother moving my Quote Index. It's not like I do anything with it anymore.

Do it for posterity's sake. ;)

You could create a quick second copy of the webpage via www.BackupUrl.com (http://www.BackupUrl.com) then re-create any of the WoT materials on another more UI friendly webpage. You can see an example of the useability of BackupUrl by using the 'Ideal Seek (http://backupurl.com/cache/8n8468.html)' WoT word search database.

The Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org) is a passive internet indexing site, while BackupUrl is an on-demand user commanded internet indexing site.

Wow Geo going down...it's the end of an era. I remember back in 96 Geo wot sites were everywhere. Man crazy talk. You guys need to save that stuff...for the love of the Light, make it happen

Oh, don't worry, Felix, I've got all that stuff on my own hard drive - it's just a matter of whether I should try to find new hosting. I never really cared enough to pay for hosting anything, and I'm honestly not sure if that's going to change, is all.

Hmm...there are plenty of "free" hosting services that offer in the 100GB of data storage range. Let me know if you guys need help with it. I'm as broke as could be but I love this kind of stuff.

Lemme know if you guys need any web design also. I don't charge because I'm not pro. My emphasis is more geared towards IT, but I have been known to dabble in the arts.

Big B, couple of questions.

What is the size of the data you are holding?

Do you have Geocities Theoryland stuff from when Tam had the big Theory buittons on the index page?

Do you have any of the Inside the Web message board archives?

Do you any or all of the news archives?

Spidy, I was just talking about my old WoT-Quote Archive. Sadly I don't have any of the actual Theoryland content of yore.

Not sure which geocities WoT website your referring to, yet my google-fu found this one: http://www.geocities.com/lovemy78z28/ET.html (http://www.geocities.com/lovemy78z28/ET.html)

I hope you have at least two copies of your WoT-Quote Archive, if it's important. A single hard drive isn't generally the safest mode of archiving; I've have more than a few fail over 15-20 years of using computers. I'll take it you have another backup copy elsewhere on CD-R/DVD-RW, RAID hard drive system, and/or an free online storage website like Box.net (http://www.box.net/). Thanks for saving it :)
