I haven't been paying close attention to all the details of the coming release, but has this even been mentioned?

I thought maybe they decided not to do it because there might be a great number of people that would decide NOT to buy the book based on the prologue, which has never been the case before. But a lot of people are waiting to see how BS handles the writing, and that is a danger, I suppose...

I don't remember if they said one way or the other at JordanCon if they were going to do that. I just remeber it being mentioned...

I don't like it as a concept anyway.

interesting analysis, Terez. The pessimist in me says you may be right. ;) Overall, i thik it's a safer bet not to pre-release the Prologue. i personally didn't like the pre-releases anyway. The Prologues always had the juicy parts, and i'm willing to wait for them.

Agreed. I'd rather get it all at once. Its only a few weeks away as it is...well like 8 weeks but still...almost there.

OMG I can't wait.

Really sneaking up on us, isn't it?

I wouldn't rule it out too quckly Terez. (The prologue might actually help sell the full book and reassure people, given it's largely RJ's work with polishing by Brandon).

The announcement for the book split and TGS got totally out of hands following leaks last winter, and I'm pretty sure Harriet was very displeased with that. It ruined Harriet and Tom's plans to make the announcement in person at JordanCon, and forced them to make damage control instead - and rush a press release. It's hardly surprising Harriet would take the means this time to preserve the secret until the day she's ready to announce the release.

At JC on panel, she mentionned she was about to contact S&S to conclude the e-book deal - she was waiting for her contact there to return from some book fair or con in the UK. If she changed her mind or didn't get a deal (but Doherty, also at JC, mentionned he would very much have liked to handle the ebook - we can assume if the S&S deal didn't work Tor would have taken over), I have the feeling she would have let this known by now, not to create expectations that won't be met.

There was a rumour that Harriet didn't rule out Jenn's offer to tie the release with DragonCon, which is next week-end. It may be very telling that Jason, and Jenn (who is involved both with JC and DC) have been totally silent about the prologue, and so is Brandon (the likely source to have announced ny now if it won't happen, he must get many email requests about it).

If nothing is announced by next week, it will more likely the e-book idea has been scrapped, but it's probably more likely we'll hear about it over next week-end - if it doesn't become available right away.

Some have speculated Harriet may have rather decided to mark the anniversary of Jim's passing with the ebook release. This prologue contains a lot of some of his last almost-finished writing, after all.

I'm scared it will wreck it for me like it did with KoD. I can't NOT buy it so its like ruining Christmas morning.

Interesting assessment Dom. It wold be a good venue to tie in the ebook with, so I suppose we'll just have to wait and see...le sigh.

Dav, you didn't like the prologue? It was one of my favourite parts of the last book!

I think he's saying it ruined the rest of the book for him or something - like maybe he would have been happier if he'd read it all at once. I don't really relate. Either way, I've read the whole book. Early tidbits are good!

No, I LOVED the prologue. I just like to tackle the entire book at once. Its a personal preference is all. If the prologue comes out I'll buy it and read it several times while waiting for the full thing but I'd be just as happy to get it all at once in 8 weeks.

Yes, it's what I was getting at too. The prologue was amazing (and the rest too) but having so long to speculate (and going at it with some many people with ideas) sort of ruined my first read a bit - too much guessed right, and too much expected that turned out wrong too. Same for WH and same for COT. So it's really hit and miss. That effect lasts only for first read, however. And like Davian I love to go from start to finish when I read a book the first time (not just WOT). But I'll read the prologue and enjoy it, of course.

Sounds like I'm probably right. Jennifer just posted that she has a secret and she's about to burst - then that she can't talk at all but we will all know soon enough. So, expect some new WOT chew on soon, I'd say :) And poor her, her life size promotional Rand al'Thor sent by Tor got badly injured in the mail. How fitting!

Well, I guess I end up buying the Prologue and going nuts reading it.

Reading new WoT is like crack...could be dangerous.

Again...I really hope you're right. :D I'm going to try to stay on top of school assignments so I can dig right in when it comes out! And make sure I have about $5 in my bank account...

Tall and willowy vs short and bosomy? The best of both worlds.

Nope, never posted before last week. I guess you all just bring out my true nature.
