I was reading through The Path of Daggers today and a question came to me. As Moridin is watching the Kin, Windfinder and Aes Sedai go through the gateway to the Farm in order to use the Bowl of Winds he mentions that they might have an angreal (or sa'angreal) attuned to men. But, Moridin doesn't use saidin he uses the True Power which comes straight from the DO, is there a difference when a man uses the TP and a woman uses it. Apparently there is since he still needs a male angreal to channel more of the TP. I don't know... Thoughts?

I don't believe that an angreal for Saidin would work with the TP anymore than an angreal for Saidar would.

MOridin use the TP by "choice,' not because he can no longer use Saidin. An angreal for men would be of use to heim evenif he never used it himself -- as bait or reward for the other male Forasken or a "dreadlord."

Yeah, I know he can still use Saidin. I guess I didn't state my question very well. Can someone using the TP utilize an angreal or sa'angreal? If so does a man still need to use a male angreal and a woman a female?

I seriously doubt it. angreal and sa'angreal are created to channel a specific thing. If they can't even channel a different form the One Power, how in hell are they gonna amplify the power of a totally different source?

The TP is a totally different animal. I'm guessing the Moridin uses the True Power to assert his authority over the other Chosen (he's the only one allowed to access it) and because he's insane... but with an angreal, he'd have access to a proportionally greater amount of the One Power, and would almost certainly trade the cooler TP for the larger power wielded through the OP + angreal.

In fact, there's no real evidence to indicate that strength in the OP is in any way related to strength in the TP, only that you need access to the OP to be able to access the TP.

Since the TP is completely a matter of your desire to use it and the DO's willingness to allow you to use it, I would even hypothesize that there really are no user-based power levels in the TP. It's simply a matter of how much the DO is willing to give you. If that's the case, then it would make *angreal rather pointless.

It could be that Moridin uses the TP exclusively, because he can wield more of that than he can of the OP, unaided. If that's true, then with a sufficiently strong angreal he could once again choose which to do: use the TP or use a similar amount of OP to do any particular job.

Moridin uses the TP to do mundane things, even when there is no one else of consequence to observe him, so I don't think it's a matter of his relative strength in OP vs TP. He uses the TP exclusively because of it's addictive properties.

RJ answered this one straight out. From the Wotmania 2004 interview (http://www.wotmania.com/faqtopic.asp?ID=96):

16. Can Moridin use a male angreal if he channels the True Power?

No.

Well, Moridin might not switch to using the One Power instead of the True Power even if he obtained an angreal. It would depend on whether strength in the Power was really that important for what he was doing at the time. It might be far more important in certain circumstances to be able to channel undetected using the True Power.

of course, Marie... but lets say we're back in the Stone of Tear, in tDR, Ishy almost certainly wants MORE power as supposed to stealth.

Its the same in warfare. There is a time for sneaking, and a time for charging. I'm not sayin that upon getting an angreal Moridin would all of a sudden become an exclusive OP user... just that there would be a much bigger incentive to use it in certain situations.

Uh, yeah. That's why I said in my previous post that it would be more important in certain circumstances to want to use the True Power to avoid detection -- I didn't say that would be the case in all circumstances. There are plenty of examples where we see Moridin using the True Power so that it wouldn't be detected, and as you indicated there are other instances where he may want to be able to channel as much power as possible, whether that be True Power or One Power.
