I can actually still write in cursive and I don't even think of it as an oddity. Talk about a lost art.

I can still write in cursive, although if I'm rushed I'm the only one who can read it...actually its that way when I'm not rushed. Maybe I should scan in some lol. Working in civil engineering for so long, I usually print in all caps. It's easier for communication purposes and it also makes everything neat and easy to read. My printing is way way way better than my cursive.

I've never been able to write in proper cursive, and I'm older than you Dav. I think the reason is that our handwriting class was held before school, so since I was routinely late for school, I missed out on the proper brainwashing. I do know how to write proper cursive letters, really...but my fastwriting is a cross between cursive and print. I also write in capital block letters for most things, because my cursive/print is pretty unreadable.

We HAD to learn cursive in elementary school and we were graded on handwriting up til 5th grade. To get straight A's I needed to write clearly in cursive so I learned it. I rarely use it anymore but I can still do it. I also didn't get a personal computer til I was in 10th grade so I HAD to write all my essays in cursive else they wouldn;'t be accepted by the teachers.

Yeah, we had to learn it too, and were also graded on it. Currently, I can write to kinds of cursive: readabble and unreadable, the first takes WAY to write and the second can only be read by me... So I usually write print... and then I still have to make sure to write slow, or it's also unreadable... :(

Yeah, what Sare said....if I'm going to write in proper cursive, it's going to take forever...even longer than it takes me to do the capital block letters. So I write in my print/cursive instead unless someone needs to read it, in which case I use the caps.

I used to have beautiful handwriting. I was that annoying kid the teachers held up the worksheets from to show how it should be done. I was even an engraver in HS.
I got older and got a job where handwriting is secondary. It's gotten more and more illegible and now even vaguely resembles my mother's. How odd is that?

if held at chalkpoint i could write amazingly well cursive. otherwise I was to apathetic to care. as long as I could read it and the teacher could read it who cared?
nowadays I can read my own and I write notes for myself at work every night. my handwriting hasn't gotten better but at least I can read it ;)

I do, however, still write everything in cursive. Even my grocery lists.

It's faster for me. Even my block lettering is connected.

We should all scan up a sample of our handwriting. That would be interesting. :D

I had my handwriting analyzed for a bachlorette party once. The woman came to my friend's house. We all wrote a paragraph and she did a 10 minute analysis. It was really fun and eerily accurate!
She said that when people lose function of their hands (for whatever reason) and need to use their feet or mouth to write, once they get accustiomed to the new method, the style of writing remains the same. That's because our style of writing comes from our brain (as opposed to a mechanical cause), and can indicate a lot about our personality- so she says...
A full analysis involves writing three samples on different days and can generate up to 25 pages of analysis, and costs a bloody fortune!

We were forced to write in cursive from second grade up through about seventh grade. I still do it occasionally, if I'm taking notes in a class with a really slow lecturer or something. My normal handwriting now is kind of quasi-cursive, too. Most of my letters are connected, and my g's and j's and y's are very loopy.

How do some people not know which country is north of the United States (Hint: It starts with a "C" and ends in "anada"). People are morons.

I can only write the letters that are in my name in cursive. For the SAT, when I had to write the pledge in cursive, I had to have my girlfriend write all the letters out for me so I could figure out how to do it. :o

I'm going to try to scan in something...Thinking something like:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
And then I'll print it too. May put something else in just to see if anyone can translate it.

We had to learn cursive in elementary school. I still use it though I don't ever really give it any thought sometimes I print sometimes I use cursive whatever shows up on the paper is what I use. But, even though we were forced to learn it I think most people forgot most of it by the time they reached high school.
I only write cursive. It's what comes naturally to me, and I find it faster than block letters. It's not pretty cursive, granted, but still cursive.

I've never actually encountered the word 'cursive'. I'm presume it is some kind of working class term for joinedyupwriting.
My writing did used to be pretty good, but years of exams (particularly history) ruined it as i tried to cram as many words as possible into a limited time.
Alas, now only rarely write at all, barring the odd passsionate love letter.

My cursive has degenerated into [first letter of intended word]+squiggly lines.

Thats pretty much what mine looks like. The letters that drop below the line just end though, Don't know why, but they don't attach to anything...neither does my "f" now thatI'm looking at it. lol...I have terrible handwriting.

My letters that drop below the line are generally some of the only ones that do connect...
