Dammit!

I was looking at the site when IT remotely took over my computer (probably because they will be doing a computer switch soon) and there is TL full up on the screen. I have a very sinking feeling the sight will be blocked soon...I was caught.

Explain that you were on your break and that you were researching a book for your kids...I.e. is it okay for them to read...You googled and this came up. :)

That is if they ask before blocking.

Unless they look at my history- then I'm screwed :o

I won't get in trouble (excpet maybe a warning), but I'd hate to lose the site- it keeps me sane while I'm here.

Well, if it comes to that, misery loves company. Bry and I can start a Lost TL at Work support group.

Well, Bryan would still have it if people around him would STOP DLing viruses and malware.

Yeah Gil... if they'd stop all that DL'ing Viruses and malware, his porn would have a much faster DL time too;););)

Whew- OK they replaced my computer (routine maintenance).

They were a couple of kids fresh out of University- hopefully they don't care whether or not I was on a harmless fansite like TL. ;)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed- if I'm still on next week I think all will be well.

It was serious panic when my keyboard was seized and I am watching in horror as my cursor is flying all over the place checking out my computer and TL is exposed in all her glory.

I don't know where these kids went to school, but you're supposed to warn people before you just take over. Or at least give them a time window.

I'm glad I AM the only IT guy.

Her glory? Whe did TL get a gender?

When we gave it one. And yeah, Brita, dunno about you Canadians, but they're required to let us know. What if they'd screwed up some actual WORK? (I know, right?)

Brita

Hmmmm- come to think of it, any other time I have been called before the computer has been remotely controlled...

But I won't be complaining this time for obvious reasons. If it happens again and I'm not caught with my hand in the cookie jar maybe I'll say something.

hehe- touche :)

Do you report people for visiting their favorite websites while at work?

Anything that isn't PORN isn't a big deal at every company I've ever worked for. If people surf the net looking at sports and sites like TL they're pretty much left alone...as long as the work gets done.

I don't report anything unless it's dangerous. I'm much more like to bookmark the URL if it's a good site, and if not, to hold it over the person's head for some future favor. ;)

Seriously though, as Dav says, as long as the work gets done, it's not that big of a deal. One time I gave someone a hard time for shopping online when our network was slowing down. I never followed up though--I think it was enough for him to know I could see it.

The only reason I can sign in on TL is because my job requires me to access sites that have logins (electronic data capture, web based collaboration centres and such). Otherwise I would be locked down like everyone else, no online banking, no signing in to discussion forums or anything like that.

Our system is the hospitals, not for our personal use. So even on breaks we aren't allowed to surf (technically). So any site that comes to their attention as a personal site they will block. It's just the policy at the Institution. But I have a feeling these guys don't really care, or even cared to notice. Especially if they had accessed my computer without my permission against policy.

~looks innocent~ IMPOSSIBLE! Her original post is dated 6/12 at 8am. Dunno what time zone -- but MOST unlikely that that is Hawaii time. Therefore I was SOUND ASLEEP!

Actually, that IS Hawaiian Time, Tru... It says 8 pm for me, and I have put my settings on Central European time. :)

Well, as everyone can see, I am still online on Tuesday at 0930. Thank Goodness!

Interestingly enough, I had some issues with the new computer (of course) and IT had to fix some programs. And indeed, when those staff were remotely accessing my computer to fix the issues, they always called ahead.

So the person who came on while I was on TL probably broke the rules, so he can't exactly report the website that he saw while inappropriately accessing my computer.
