Yeah, I'm crossing references, but I'm tired and I don't care. So just a quick note to let you all know that I'm home safe and early as I was able to catch an earlier flight out of Toronto and made it home an hour or so early.

The Con in three words: Theoryland kicks ass!

More later.

Evil has returned to California. ;) i'm home too. i had a blast.

Someone better get busy posting pictures. Lots of someones.

04-26-2010, 02:25 AM
As I said, I'll get to that stuff in the morning...well, when it gets morning-er. Glad to hear you made it back safe & sound as well Frenzy. Took a look, Steve (portalstones.com) doesn't have the videos up yet, but that's no surprise.

There is this though from Dragonmount.

Let's see, we've got (amongst others), Muerandah, WSB, ST, myself (in the red Sens jersey; note: I'd found out about 2 minutes before that shot that the Sens beat the Pens in triple-overtime, so I was pretty happy), Tam, Ishy, Hopper, the Queen of Theoryland and Pops.

I am back home safe too :)

It was SOOOO much fun!!!

I'll post the pics as soon as I weed out the terrible ones.

(grrr, stupid formatting)

Ok, so, got to the airport around noonish. My nephew, sister & dad accompanied me to the airport, which means I didn't need to leave my car there, which was good. The flight down was good, but then I had to clear US Customs...

Got through that, but I arrived at 3 and I was hoping to have some time to find Ishara and talk to her for a bit because the chances that we were near each other on the flight were slim. I cannot remember when we boarded for the flight to Atlanta, but I know that as I got there people were already getting on the plane, so no Ishy. :(

I'd gotten seated and was in the middle of texting Ishy where I was when I got a message, I believe it said "OMG I can see you!" I was at the very front of the plane and she was at the back. It was a small plane, but there was still no way I was going to be able to see or talk to her for the flight.

Got to Atlanta, met Ishy (yay!) and then we cleared off trying to find our way out of the airport. We start walking, walked some more, missed the escalator, went back, went down, walked more and then we saw an underground train car. I, being supremely lazy decided to ask if it went to the baggage claim and sure enough it did...and good thing too because otherwise we'd still be there walking now trying to get to the baggage area.

After a 20 mile ride on the car we got out and took an escalator from the bowels of the earth back up to ground level where we saw a 12 year old riding a camel who also had a sign proclaiming his love for grilled cheese sandwiches...we'd found our ride.

We made it back to the hotel got checked in and met up with a wolf and a Mets fan.

We also found some rednecks and we went out for dinner at the Cheesecake factory.

After dinner we got back to the hotel and found Tam and Jason (of Dragonmount) who were working away.

We just sat in the lobby and chatted (actually we did that alot during the Con). I was texting back and forth with my brother about the Sens game, hence the other picture above.

After that we all drifted off to sleep. My room had an incredibly hard bed and I'm amazed I got to sleep at all. I did eventually and that leads us to Friday.

04-26-2010, 04:05 PM
I think I am only in a few pictures (the ones we took with Harriet).

04-26-2010, 04:05 PM
So, Friday rolls around. We head out for a meeting in Tam's room at 9 where he explains what's going down.

We got Tam on his laptop, Pops hiding behind the TV, WSB, Camel & ST.

More of ST, Isa, Mrs. ST hiding behind her, the Queen of TL, Frenzy, Seeker and Ishy. Birgitte & Hopper were also there, but the pictures didn't turn out.

Tam explains what's going down and what we're doing. We also get our Shirts. We head out to breakfast, come back and then get ready.

We were hiding in the service corridors behind the exhibition area waiting.

Here we've got our people getting ready. That's Alan Romanczuk (with the backpack and no TL shirt). There's also Birgitte (between ST & Alan), Zanguini (between Alan & Hopper).

Here's the backs of the shirts. That's the back of Cary on the right.

SWAT Team is ready and waiting for the cue.

Now, I didn't get to see what happened next, I was still in the corridor waiting, but the SWAT Team and Alan rush in and arrest the speaker. Myself, Ishy, Cary & Isa haul in some chairs and then we disappeared...then started filing back in and handing Brandon pieces of paper, I took a picture or two.

That's Harriet in the foreground. Anyway, as the mobbing goes on Tam calls out and gets Frenzy. Tam starts complaining that we're giving Brandon pieces of paper and Frenzy replies that "well, you said we couldn't ASK any questions. You said nothing about asking questions written on pieces of paper." A couple more jokes and Frenzy hauls us out. A few of us had notices a slight similarity in the names of Mr. Sanderson and Mr. Anderson (ie Neo from the Matrix movies). Seeker however has the gift of the mimic and not only pulled off the name in Agent Smith's perfectly clipped tone, but also went on to adopt one of his soliloquies, namely this one:

"Mr. Sanderson. I watched Graendal die.... with some satisfaction, I might add. Then something happened- something I thought would be impossible, but it happened anyway." I cannot remember how far he got as I was one of the first ones out, but it was still very well done. Once that was all done we filtered back in and took our seats. Matt continued on with his speech/toast, getting Frenzy in for some crowd control.

Brandon, Harriet et al, were introduced and then Brandon did his first panel/Q&A.

Afterwards he hung out with a bunch of us in the hall and we got to ask some more questions. It's also where he told us that something is very wrong with this picture...other then the big black line being through the middle of it (is it my fault I can spot the obvious?)

Oh, that's reTaardad on the left with the glasses.

After that a couple of panels Q&A type stuff. We then split up for dinner (reTaardad recommended a good sportsbar by the name of Taco Mac I believe, which was actually quite good.

After dinner there was Poker, Magic and Tam's panels of Asmodean & Loony theories. I really wanted to attend that latter one but I couldn't give up the chance to play against Brandon in Magic. Sorry, Tam. As Ishy posted elsewhere, I did get my match (and won!)

Played, traded and talked Magic until 2 am, then not being able to sleep I was up until 4 before finally dozing off.

Sunday stuff goes here.

04-26-2010, 05:00 PM
Thursday & Friday updated. I'll get to Saturday & Sunday later.

04-26-2010, 06:52 PM
I can't remember who it was, but I was talking with someone about R.A Salvatore's Demon Wars saga, namely the maps.

As a follow up to that conversation I give you:

the Land of Corona

Eastern Canada

and a overlay of one onto the other

I guess making up geography isn't R.A. Salvatore's strong suit.

04-26-2010, 06:57 PM
I guess making up geography isn't R.A. Salvatore's strong suit.

Neither is Piers Anthony's:

04-26-2010, 07:11 PM
True, but that's Piers Anthony. He's not exactly known for being serious.

04-26-2010, 07:27 PM
Ha! That was me. At least, I was there, SBX. And that's funny.

04-26-2010, 07:31 PM
perhaps it was Seeker then that lost it. Either way, it's still highly amusing.

04-26-2010, 09:17 PM
Awesome Wot Travelogue SBX!

But, it's SWOT, not SWAT. ;)

04-26-2010, 11:13 PM
Special Wheel of Time? Super Wackos of Theoryland?

05-02-2010, 11:02 PM
I suppose I should finish this off. So, let's see Saturday. Well it started off by everyone forgetting about me. I woke up at 10, which made sense since I finally got to sleep about 4, but it turns out that everyone hit an IHoP and completely forgot about me. I'm still a little upset about this as I don't think I've ever been to one and, let's be honest, you don't get to be as big as I am without loving food.

Given the late hour of my awakening I missed the first panel (not much I wanted to do that morning anyway), but I made it down to the Book signing at 11:30. A whole bunch of TL'ers were there, finally saw Terez that morning (although I think she saw me earlier (I had 4 hours sleep, it's amazing I was even able to find the door!)). I got my copy of tGS signed by both Brandon and Harriet and got a copy of Mistborn signed for some friends of mine.

...and this picture is why I usually make any and all attempts to remain behind the camera instead of in front of them. (http://i44.tinypic.com/24ynsio.jpg)

Anyway, after that there was the individual trivia competition. I didn't get involved because it's been far too long since I was really involved in the trivialities of the books, although it turns out I do remember a few things *cough*Aligning the Matrix*cough*.

Heh, after that was the Moiraine panel, which was especially fun. About the first 5-10 minutes of it was a Moiraine love-fest, most of it being an argument about why was Moiraine was so awesome, at which point Frenzy finally got tired and threw her steel-toed into the debate and what came after it was essentially a real time thread on the forums accept done in real time and moderated. It was awesome. The only thing it was lacking was an ESC couch and some coolers of Ice Cream and Beer.

Afterwards there was the book reading (which turned out to be from Way of Kings). Then a bunch of us ducked out to Uncle Julio's for dinner, where everyone waved to Bryan & Gil.

We got back and some stuff happened. I cannot remember if I hit the ToM discussion or not, but I do remember trying to organize the TL'ers to try to combine to put a bid in on the auction for the copy of Way of Kings. We managed, I dunno what it was, $400? $450? Anyway, it didn't even come close as Steve from Portalstones.com ended up going to $822 (and he said he'd go as high as $1000).

The most memorable part though was just hanging out with (first Eclipse & Pops sampling the bottle of Chivas Eclipse so generously brought along (and Eclipse, it was great that you were able to make it, it's been FAR too long my friend)) and later with, well, just about all the TL'ers that were there.

Even with everything else that went on at the Con, this is probably the best time I had while I was there (even though I found out that my Sens lost game 6 and the series that night). As I said in Vegas it was meeting old friends for the first time. I'd met some of you guys there, but it was great to meet more of you and to see others again.

What was especially poignant at the time was that I was thinking of others that I would have liked to have seen and who we still need to drag out to a TL get together at some later date, but what occurred to me was that there were some members I never would get to meet and one in particular that I really wish I had met before he left us and to whom I will drink in the future whenever Theorylanders meet: To Imram!

Eventually we all stumbled off in search of sleep for our last half day there.

05-02-2010, 11:28 PM
So, let's see, Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.

Skipped breakfast (no one wanted to go back to that IHoP :() and hit the website panel. It was interesting to hear what the other sites had gone to and through over the years and to hear of some of Tam's potential plans for Theoryland.

Then there was the trivia. It's been reported elsewhere (http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=3359), but it needs to be said again: Theoryland rocked it, hard! Three way tie for 1st place each team with 226 out of a possible 246 points? Awesome.

Had to say goodbye to the 'Taers here as they had to take off (to Florida I believe). Was good to see you again Pops and great to me you ST and Mrs. ST!

The Codex panel was interesting and I so want either Alan's or Maria's job! They were taking questions on what people wanted to see and let's be honest here, what we want to see is everything. What he hope to see is everything they can let us see.

Now, that's going to be a massively huge book and won't get published, but I wouldn't mind seeing a DVD box set or something, a digital archive that we can buy to read. Not nearly as good as a book, but I'll take whatever I can get my hands on. It was also good to talk to Larry from Red Eagle Entertainment and to hear about the upcoming movie project.

Lastly there was the Borderlands panel which turned out to be everyone that was left at the time. We fit into one of the small rooms, although it was nearly full, and, as per usual, all the Theorylanders were at the back throwing out ideas and theories as we are wont to do. It was alot of fun ranging on many topics and I had an epiphany moments, but I think I've since forgotten it, ah well, that happens.

Ishara and I had to cut out half-way into it since we needed to get to the airport to get ready for our flight. We caught a lift with Camel again (thanks Camel!) and Cary and Zan who were relocated to elsewhere in town. We had fun dealing with Airport security and eventually made it to our gate.

I looked for a copy of GGK's Under Heaven, but of course, no Canadian authors to be found in an American book store. We grabbed a bite to eat and happened to see Leanne and her (sorry, I've got a horrible memory for names :o) striding through the area waiting for their plane, chatted for a few minutes. Ishara and I just mostly chatted and then off to Toronto.

We made it back fairly quickly, although it seemed like the bus ride from the landing area to the terminal took longer then the flight did, that and clearing customs et al. I seem to remember not feeling tired that my brain was asleep. When asked for the purpose of my trip I replied with a brilliant "pleasure...business...um, I was on vacation." My half-asleep brain aside and an understanding customs agent and we cleared through. Ishy found her carry on and then she was off.

We got there at about 9:30 I think and I think Ishy was off by 9:45. I went off in search of my connecting flight not even knowing that my cousin who's currently on Vancouver Island had left the airport half an hour before. It's a shame, if the flights had turned out a little differently I could have spent some time with him.

Ah, well.

As it stands there were several flights all arriving at the same time and most (four I believe) of them were connecting to elsewhere up here so there was a massive rush. I was diverted else where and had to go through security AGAIN. Once I made it through I found a book store, and since this was Canada, it had the book, I bought it and found a counter.

My flight home was supposed to leave at 12:15, but I found a counter and asked if there was an earlier flight I could get on, and there was...but it should have just finished boarding. I got over to the gate...and everyone was still sitting there. Turns out the flight had been delayed. I checked in, sat down, and waited and waited some more. I was too tired to even read.

Eventually, the flight boarded and I was in the air by 11:15 and touched down in Ottawa by 12:05. Found my sister and my dad who picked me up at the airport and was home 20 minutes later. And as you can see by the OP in this thread half an hour after that I was posting on t3h intarwebz.

And so that was my trip to Atlanta. Hope you guys enjoyed reading up on it, and I hope to see more of you guys (and people I haven't met yet) the next time Theorylanders get together!

And? How are you liking Under Heaven?

05-03-2010, 11:08 AM
Finished it, but I'm about to go out for breakfast. Will post more later.
