Rand Paul, that is.

That is all.

Seriously, the Tea Party is the best hope that the Democrats have to maintain their margins of majority in the Senate and House.

Not sure it makes a practical difference. Democratic incumbents are being replaced in primaries by conservatives. Republican incumbents are being replaced by extremists.

Who knows? In a few years at this rate we might be able to restart Triangular Atlantic Trading again. Won't that be an economic boon to the nation!

I dunno about all that. Arlen Specter, life-long Republican, gets beat out by Sestak, who was running on a pretty progressive slate. Then, in the only race in which a Democrat actually faced off against a Republican (for Murtha's seat) the more liberal of the two democratic candidates won out.

I just find it hilarious, in a sad sort of way, that the response that Mr. Paul had to the BP fiasco was "Accident's Happen."

Cuz, you know, so many of the Tea Party are concerned that there's far too much accountability in our society to date.

I find it interesting that so much of the Tea Party is condemning the socialist government for "not doing enough" on the BP thing. I guess I still don't get when government is supposed to intervene or not. I guess the government should only intervene when doing so would either a) make the government look incompetent instead of the private sector or b) reduce financial responsibility for said private sector incompetence. Nowait...the bailouts were bad, so that can't be it.

I guess it just boils down to "If Obama does it, it is wrong and socialist. Now gimme my medicare check."

Well, dash it. It was bad enough to hear about this Ron Paul every time I switched on the news. Having a Rand Paul, too, is getting to be a bit over the top. Calling himself Rand when he can't even channel.

He can channel weaves of Anger....

Well, he couldn't if he were in the Forkroot Tea party....

What amuses me the most is the fact that they chose the Boston Tea Party as their model. And what really gets me is that the whole Boston Tea Party was to protest taxation without representation. But guess what -- you were represented. Your representatives just lost.

On a related note, at a birthday party tonight, we were playing Apples to Apples (the best board game ever) and the adjective "Fantastic" came up, and since it was my last hand and I was about to leave anyway, I put down "Democrats". My Teabagger project manager (whose party it was) was Not A Happy Camper(tm).

Oops.

Part of the problem seems to be jurisdictional. The rig was in international waters, not US waters, and the rig was not American, it is registered in the Marshall Islands, and thus under their jurisdiction. So sending in the military to take over the operations at the source of the spill might thus be construed as both a violation of international waters, and of international territory. That, of course, and the fact that we apparently don't have any better idea of what to do than does BP.

Throw Fred Phelps into the sea. Perhaps he can pray well enough to make the oil spill disappear miraculously. And if not ... well, what do you have to lose, really?

That's the media-friendly reason behind the Boston Tea Party. The underlying reason was the Colonials were making a killing off of smuggled tax-free tea from Holland, and the British Crown was trying to preserve the monopoly they gave to the East India Company (and the tax revenue they got out of said monopoly). So the Boston Tea Party 'patriots' were smuggling capitalists trying to protect the status quo which made them rich.

and THAT's why the current Tea Party movement is ironically funny. To me, anyway.

Would be even funnier if the current Tea Party turned out to be financed by drug lords, of course. Where do they get their funding from, anyway?

I don't know about that, Uno. Sure sounds to me like a lot of those people are suffering madness from the taint.
