Just to let you know, I will be gone from TL for an undetermined amount of time. Got a sudden and rather big change of job... Completely new environment, all new people, moderate pay raise, completely new system to learn... exciting and scary :D

Training needs to be done by the 15th (today is the 8th. Had first training session today) - that's when the person who's been doing this job until now will leave. After that I'll be busy swimming (or sinking).

thanks for the well wishes :)

to be honest, I'm a bit bewildered. I first heard of the possibility last week Wednesday, it was confirmed on Friday - yesterday we had the fist "Hi, I'm yks" call and now I need to cram as much knowledge into my head before the current lady finishes (next week Tuesday). It's a sort of a diagonal move, very little of what I know of the business before can be used here... so... in-te-res-ting

I had/have an even more interesting case. My previous employer (major telecom operator) decided that they need to cut costs. To do so, all temp workers have to leave when their contract runs out. For me that was last june. So I had to leave without there being any replacement for me... I made a 17 page word .doc so whoever they find should be able to at least do something...
However, this is now over a week ago, and I've heard they still don't have a new one. Considering I handled claims, I told my old colleagues to say "hi" tot the collection agencies for me. :)

Note that it was not my direct manager who wanted me to leave. In fact, he pleaded with his own manager to allow me to stay, but no, all temp workers had to go.

I myself already have a new job, so I'm fine. However, I won't be surprised to read something in the paper in the next months about a major telecom company not being able to handle its own underground cables anymore. (I'm not the only on that had to go/will have to go.)

Me...I'd have gotten on the server, and then wiped the harddrive with something that would have destroyed all the data completely. But that's just how I roll. And I would have used someone elses log-on to do it.

Hehe. I'm fine. It's my (now ex-)coworkers I feel sorry for, as they'll have to face a 6-man job with just the 2 of them...
Idiot managers are idiots...

In my last job, one of my roles was to audit company internet usage. I seriously debated (at times) emailing employee spouses lists of all the porn their husbands (or wives) were trying to access through the firewall. I mean, you want to look at porn, knock yourself out...but dont do it on company time (or our network).

Sorry to hijack your thread, yks...Congrats again on the cool promotion!!!

I lost my last corporate job because the directive went out that every team leader had to cut one person from staff. My team was me and my boss.

Of course, there was zero redundancy for my position, so I got to contract for 6 months at 150% of what my salary had been.

Yes...Corporations are models of efficiency, planning and strategy.

Congrats, YKS! I'm sure you'll do fine learning everything new. And look at it this way--everyone knows you have no idea what you're doing, so you can't really take any blame! ;)

I can't take it any more. Folks coming and going like for no good reason. I think I'll just commit 'taer-a-cide.

Before I do though, congrats yks and hurry back, I might be able to hold out a week or so.

Right, as some of you probably noticed, I'm not exactly quite as busy as I thought I would be. Training is over, and I've managed to hand over most of my previous tasks... bit of a lull now, dreading next week when I officially start in the new function.

If I were a nail-biting kind of a person, my figertips would be bleeding right now.
