So I got a new tattoo. While it's not directly WoT related, it was in part inspired by it. And, also much more prominent, inspired by all of the marital bliss that comes along with your spouse having an affair. It's not over by far, but it IS getting better weekly, and I believe that we actually will come out of this better than before once it's all said and done- not that I believe that means much of anything about the affair itself.

Part of our counselor's suggestions to me was that I had to believe in myself much more than I do. I had to think that if she does cheat again, it's her loss and not mine. I have to think that I'm worth so much that if she screws up, even tho it hurts me, in the end it will hurt her worse because I will move right along. I'm not saying this is true, because I certainly don't believe it, but that's the mindset he wants me to work towards so that the control / paranoia issues that happen when she isn't around subside.

So I got to thinking about it. It kind of felt like the Wheel to me - the wheel turns, yadda yadda. Her affair felt like the end to me, but I realized it wasn't The end, it was an end. One Age of my life gone, another beginning. Yeah, I know, it sounds trite as hell, but it really does fit. So the affair, as horrible as it felt, wasn't The End, but it was An End.

Before all this started, I'd been toying around with getting an Omega symbol tattooed on my wrist. I liked how it looked in the God of War logo. Well, after thinking of it this way, it made me hesitant to get the letter than means "The End" tattooed on me. It didn't feel right. But then I got to thinking about other games, and I thought of Soul Reaver who has a wizard who controls time named Mobius (after the mobius strip, of course - which is the basis for the Infinity symbol, and also the idea behind the twisted ter'angreal ring that gets you into TAR). And infinity means without end. So I ended up pairing the infinity symbol with the omega symbol.

The picture's aren't great (i was trying to bend my arm and take the pic with the other, a bit hard to do for the omega one), but here they are:

The omega is on the top of my left wrist with the opening towards my hand, and the infinity is directly opposite on the bottom of my left wrist. I designed them both in photoshop to get the exact look I wanted, and took them into a local artist. Cost me $60 for the whole thing, took like 45 minutes. I had figured the infinity would hurt along the bottom of my wrist, but it didn't for the most part - only the very center section did. The top didn't hurt at all while he did it, but it is a little stiff now where the wrist muscles pull at the edges.

I was going to get it done closer to the hand, but the artist recommended against it - you can do it just fine, but if you move your wrists a lot it will make the peeling much worse, and since I type at work all day I figured it was good advice. They lay about 2 inches back from the base of my hand.

EDIT: lol, just noticed you can see my 4th edition Players Handbook for D&D in the first pic, and if you're careful, my guitar to Guitar Hero in the background of the second. Gamers rock - Literally.

Hey DT, is one bigger than the other or was it just the perspective of the shot?

The omega is larger. It's probably an 1.5" square, the infinity is prolly 1.5" wide but only 3/4" tall.

And thanks for all the compliments. Cept for Camel, he earns a trip to compliment hell. It's where you half to listen to a French man tell you how horrible you are.

Woohoo DT! I am so glad things are working out between you two.

On a personal, and hopefully encouraging, note- this Christmas my Mother-in-law ran off with another man. Now this was a COMPLETE shocker to all of us. To make a long (and very drama filled) story short, she came back. They are going to counseling and are working things out as well. And I can tell you for a fact they will be stronger for this, individually and as a couple. A lot of hard issues had to be faced, and now that they are, they are healing.

And nice art- I like the symbolism, very meaningful.

I think they look great. I hate people that get tatoos with no meaning behind them but you seem to have really thought it out.

This is the only one I ever got and it really means alot to me.

I have 2 more tattoos as well. A phoenix near my right elbow, and a dragon on my back near the right shoulder blade. Neither of them have any significant meanings to them, as far as something well thought out, just vague ideas of mine.

Dragons have always reminded me that no matter how smart, how strong, or how great you are, there's always someone out there who metaphorically (or not) thinks you taste great with ketchup.

And phoenixes (whats the plural there, anyways? phoenixi? just phoenix?) have that bit of magic and mystery that refuses to be defined. Believe what you want about life, the universe, and everything; just don't expect everyone to play by your rules.

I'm happy with my dragon, although it's blurred over the years since I had it done. (8-9 years ago now). The phoenix not so much - the ink peeled a lot, and I got tired of hassing that particular artist to redo it - he kept saying he would, but always later, or he wasn't in, etc etc, over the course of a month and a half and I gave up. Plus, he didn't show me the original placement in a mirror - but it looked centered to me looking down at my arm. Looking in a mirror or for anyone else looking, it's horribly off centered, so I've always wanted to go back and add to it to make the tattoo as a whole look centered.

Plus, me living in KY, the common joke on me is that I'm a Freebird fan since I have it tattooed on my arm. @#$@#$ hillbillies. @#$@#$ lynard skynard.

I don't think there was a plural. From what I remember, there was (and is) only one phoenix.

i dont have any tattoos, but i want to get one at some point, my thought is to get a triforce on the back of my hand like the one on the back of ganon's hand (with the top one more visible)

also, why would you want to use 4.0? there's not enough books out to be useful
