Wait for what, you might ask?

SC teen struck, killed by Six Flags coaster (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080628/ap_on_re_us/six_flags_death)

wait for the lawsuit.

Oh, and if you like inverted roller coasters, go ride one before they're all dismantled. This exact same thing happened at the inverted coaster i used to run at Great America, where a Darwin-inspired idiot went through a restricted gate and hopped an 8-foot fence to get his precious hat back. (SO glad i didn't work there anymore when that happened.) That case, and there was a case, was brought because the warning signs weren't in the deceased's language. As if an 8-foot fence needed translation.

The teen and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, S.C., police said.

That's stupid. They didn't win the case, did they?

The guy in the article can't even use that excuse...

Regardless if signs are posted, the number of fences this youngster had to climb to get to the point of impact would be a good indication that you shouldn't be there.

I'm sorry for the death and have great sympathy for the loss to friends and family, however, I see now way a law suit can be more than a waste of time and or money all around.

Update on the story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080630/ap_on_re_us/six_flags_death)
My sympathies for the family, who often struggle with the aftermath of a thoughtless deed. Sounds like they see this for what this is: a terrible accident.

but we'll see.

"We're not clear on what happened," he said. "All we know is that we don't blame anybody."

My level of respect for this family just increased quite a bit.

I'm sure there are lawyers in SC and GA that are weeping over the lost lawsuit revenue.

Thats the point of these lawsuits. Its a huge expense and terrible PR... the family brings suit expecting to settle. And I'm sure they promise an arm and a leg to the lawyer, so even the small (miniscule to nonexistent) claim they had to the money is squandered by their greed, as the lawyer ends up taking most of it.

However, the amusement park near me, about a quarter the size of a Six Flags, has had 4 deaths in three years! I was there the night someone died. Craziness. Go Rye Playland! Where the most improbable death's become likely!
