Don S. Davis, best known to genre fans as Maj. Gen. George Hammond in the Stargate television and film franchise, died on June 29. He was 65. Davis was a co-star during the first seven years of "Stargate Sg-1." As a result of a medical condition, he cut back to making guest appearances on "Sg-1" until the show wrapped at the end of its 10th season. He also brought Gen. Hammond to several episodes of "Stargate: Atlantis." His final franchise appearance will be in the upcoming direct-to-dvd film, "Stargate: Continuum," scheduled for release on July 29. He appeared in numerous films, including "Far Cry," "Woodshop" and "Vipers," all of which are in post-production. He guest-starred on several television shows, such as "Supernatural," "The Dead Zone" and "Flash Gordon."

Since RDA scaled back for health reasons, too, I hope we don't soon see his obit.

He was in Twin Peaks too! Small role but I love Twin Peaks :) Never have any show made me so hungry for Coffee and pie! :D

That is so damn sad! Hammond of Texas...totally made me laugh though. He was awesome on that show, and I can hardly wait to see Continuum!

Also, I had NO idea that RDA cut back because of health reasons - I had heard that he cut back to spend time with his daughter Wylie.

Might've been that, too. I do know he was getting a lil' old for the stunts. Visa commercials not-withstanding.

Yeah, he was pretty vocal about having put in his time, and not really imagining that the fanchise would just keep going and going...he had a relatively new child and wanted to spend more time with her. Not to mention the fact that he outright refused to move to BC, so he would fly in, shoot and then fly home to California. Talk about a shitty commute!
