You're a Nazi? (thinking back to old Indiana Jones Movies) Or maybe you're an albino? Cool!

The picture is Powder from the movie that came out in 1995.
Many friends say that I remind them of Powder. I havent seen it so I dont know how closely our personalities resemble eachother but I am confident that, without being an albino, I look like him. I have bleached blond eye brows and a very light skin complexion. I burn very easy and so i wear hats and sunscreen while outside. The sun hurts my eyes a LOT and my solution for that is to squint to where they're almost closed.
Powder, from what I gather, wears the hat to protect his skin from burning and sun glasses to protect his eyes from burning out.
I would definately like to watch the movie, though, to determine if our personalities are alike. :)

i guess "baby troll growing up" is a proper way to describe it... maybe a little TOO proper? I'm still a baby at heart ya know :p
I have always been me in real life. I just decided i would drop the front and the personality i chose to represent myself here. you think my wife would have married me with an attitude like you've all seen? if she did that was some poor decision making on her part.
And as for super powers? hmm...
My super power is...... i can make any material so that it will explode on contact... i used to use playing cards that i would chuck at people and robots but i got tired of the same ole game and am currently open to suggestions for what i should use now. remember... my playing cards were easy to pack around and flew straight. keep that in mind when coming up with a suggestion.

I vote for laser beams shooting out of your eyes. It would make better sense if you really were an albino with the pink eyes, but I'm thinking you could probably still pull it off. ;p

Old fashioned "crown" bottle caps. Once you learn to "snap" them, you can throw controlled curves around corners or throw them as straight as playing cards.
NargsBrood
07-11-2008, 12:18 AM
I love the idea of incorporating the "crown" bottle caps into my current super power to further develop that skill.
But I also like the laser beams... and that's pretty ;) orginal just like my playing cards i think. I could get pink contact lenses and bleach my skin like Michael Jackson to satisify your concerns though, Ishara.
As much as I'd like to take advantage of both powers I probably shouldnt be greedy... cause after all, we all know that there aren't many super powers to go around.
No. I'll have to be picky and choosy and decide which I want. As much as I'd like to become a full fledged albino I think I'll stick with my gambit skills... er herm... i mean X-Plosive objects power :)

Crown bottle caps are like miniature frisbies when you get the snap trick of throwing them down.
Laser beams from the eyes? Sounds like 1930's comic book heroes (a la Superman's Heat Vison) or 1950's B Movies, (a la Godzilla's lightning bolt vison.)
Even the exploding playing cards is a trick Joker(?) used in the sixties comics vs Batman.

so, all I was saying is you might as well tie it all together in a nice little package. I'm sure you can come up with more of these and probably even rebuttals, because as I've heard many many times, "apes always tell" so, go to it, kid!;)

lol...no. We just had an avatar-exchanging fest at another board I go to and it was loads of fun. I figured I'd try the same thing here and see how it went. I knew it wouldn't last long, because most people here are stodgy, and the general idea of what passes for humor is pretty lame, but I didn't expect the crazy reaction I got, being compared to Cholly and all. Perhaps I should have...but now that everyone's gone all crazy about it for no real reason.... ;)
Gilshalos Sedai
07-11-2008, 09:20 AM
That was great, Spammer, thanks.
Terez, this isn't funny, because most of us chose avatars that have a personal meaning for us not because we looked at a pic and said, "oooh, shiney." (Which is actually what I did. LOL)
Terez
07-11-2008, 09:24 AM
What makes you think that the Malazan people's avatars were any less special to them? It's still not a reason to go apeshit, because it obviously isn't intended to be permanent. And definitely not a reason to compare me to Cholly...
Gilshalos Sedai
07-11-2008, 09:30 AM
Um, Cholly does things just to get a rise out of people. Kinda like this.
Terez
07-11-2008, 09:36 AM
lol...like I said, I didn't do it to get a rise out of people. The rise that I got was ENTIRELY unexpected...
Even if I did do it to get a rise out of people, it still wouldn't be anything on the order of what Cholly did. The lack of perspective here is disturbing...

why oh why is the world so against me?
can't you see that we're meant for eachother?
uhm...
by the way... did that sounds as bad to you as it did to me?
I THINK i might have to barf... hmm... i wonder about something.
Terez... i use this place to amuse myself... i think the people here are smart and for the most part really nice to talk to.
why are YOU here? obviously you don't have a great time here .
you must feel really horrible inside since you need to spew your bile at other poster. we are starting to feel bad for you, something must really be hurting inside you. is it because Hoda became a parent and you realised that now, not even he will be there for you? is life pressing down on you in a way that makes it almost unbarable to be alive? are you so starved for attention that even the negative imput you get this way is giving you a rise?
maybe you should do some soul searching, or maybe see if you could join an organisation or some kind in real life, just to give your life some kind of meaning.
you said that i was back, well... truth be told, i never left. you just means so little in the great picture that is my life, that i can't be bothered with your antics anymore.
i sugest you try and find something else to do, since apparently you need it.

Laser beams from the eyes? Sounds like 1930's comic book heroes (a la Superman's Heat Vison) or 1950's B Movies, (a la Godzilla's lightning bolt vison.)
I think she was sticking with the X-men theme with the lasers from the eyes, WH. Like Narg is a combination of Gambit with the exploding cards and Cyclops. ~realizes something~ You really might want to be offended that she was comparing you to Cyclops, Narg... Err.. no offense to people who actually *like* Cyclops (those of you who actually exist, that is. I have doubts.).

As to the actual topic of the thread...
We just had an avatar-exchanging fest at another board I go to and it was loads of fun. I figured I'd try the same thing here and see how it went.
Yanno, Terez you are right in one respect. An avatar exchange might have been fun if two conditions had been met first. 1. It was done with the permission of which ever other poster you switched with (as obviously was the case with caladan and you) or 2. it was done at random among friends. I emphasized the last part for a reason. If I were to appropriate Gilly's icon without asking, she'd just chalk it up to me being me in the context of our friendship, and it probably would have been kind of fun. However, if someone like Asmodean were to come back and take her icon, the reaction would be about the same. There isn't the same trust, there isn't the same amity, there isn't the same good faith, and there isn't the same mutual respect between the two of them and between myself and her. The reaction you are getting from most of the board about icon switching should be very telling to you about where you stand with most of us. Especially in light of statements such as this.
I knew it wouldn't last long, because most people here are stodgy, and the general idea of what passes for humor is pretty lame,
I only get pleasure out of annoying people that overreact to everything I say or do on this forum.
And therein lies the key to our reaction. Because none of us really can call you "friend" and many of us call you quite the opposite, when you do something like this, we automatically assumed it was done in bad faith to annoy and upset. The statements above are confirmation that this assumption was correct. You admit to knowing we wouldn't take it kindly and you admit to not caring. Furthermore you admit to deriving pleasure from upsetting us. Res Ipsa Locutor, you didn't do it to in a good spirited effort to have fun. You did it in a mean spirited effort to have your own fun at everyone else's expense. And that last statement summarizing your motivation for this incident pretty much sums up your entire contribution to this board for as far back as I can remember. So before you chalk up our reaction as childishness or overreaction, perhaps PD is right. Perhaps you need to take a good long hard look in the mirror and see what it is about yourself and your behavior that has led the rest of us to have the kind of reaction we're having over something that really means so little.

So, a couple things...
1) This has turned into a much bigger deal that it should be. I asked Terez to stop merely because I found it highly annoying on the other boards. I don't have some "personal attachment" to my avatar and wasn't offended by Terez using it. My initial reaction was more like an eye roll. T, I didn't think I was treating you like a child. I figured you could handle an annoyed plea from me.
2) From there, it got completely out of hand. I don't know PD's history with Terez, but I don't see any reason for that type of posting. And the rest of you...WTF? At least pick a worthwhile battle...and don't steal someone else's avatar in the middle of the discussion.

It's quite obvious Terez is more impressed with herself than anything anyone here - maybe other than Callandor - would do. She already knows she's "right", which she is "proving" by continuing to provoke people. I don't care if it's one person or the whole board, if you're provoking someone who's a good standing member of the board just to provoke them, you're a self centered bastard.
I say this knowing full well I fit right in that group. I've never claimed otherwise. I say this having pissed off nearly everyone at this board quite a damned lot, yet still having many of them refer to me as a friend.
So to anyone who thinks they're playing a game by provoking people around here, you are. Just keep in mind what kind of game you're playing, and why people start treating you like shit when you don't stop. This can go for Terez or for anyone else.
And, in that way, you're not just like Cholly, Terez. You're exactly like him. And, just like him, you refuse to admit it.
Terez
07-11-2008, 08:55 PM
It's quite obvious Terez is more impressed with herself than anything anyone here - maybe other than Callandor - would do. Does that sentence make sense?
She already knows she's "right", which she is "proving" by continuing to provoke people. Everyone provokes everyone here, you know. You hardly do anything else (which is why I picked your avatar - there have been reasons for every one that I've picked). :)
I don't care if it's one person or the whole board, if you're provoking someone who's a good standing member of the board just to provoke them, you're a self centered bastard. There's always a reason - in other words, it's never "just to provoke them". For example, the switching of the avatar in the first place was an attempt at humor. I've seen it before, and the mass confusion (which results when more than one person participates) is hilarious. Even being aware of it, you can get used to it, and subconsciously revert to assuming that the avatar matches its original poster.
For example, Muttley also posts at the forum where this happened, so he's experienced at this paying attention to user names thing, and he's aware. But in PM (on an unrelated subject) he voiced a confusion about something Sini had said somewhere. I knew what he was talking about but I knew that I was the one that said it, and I wrote him back, seriously confused as to how he confused me for Sini. Now, that's humor. :D IMHO, of course. And it's not the sort of humor that you can handle for an extended period of time (because we all like our avatars), but it's still good stuff.
So, this is what I had in mind when I stole Muttley's avatar. He was annoyed at it, which is fine...and understandable, cause I know how confusing it can get. I was going to change back to my avatar...and then SBX shows up, and compares me with Cholly! wtf! I didn't insult anyone. I didn't pick a fight with anyone, especially not with SBX. And then Sini shows up and jumps on the flamewar bandwagon. Why? It doesn't make any sense...
I say this knowing full well I fit right in that group. I've never claimed otherwise. I say this having pissed off nearly everyone at this board quite a damned lot, yet still having many of them refer to me as a friend. I've made some good friends at Theoryland too, despite the fact that a huge percentage of the board makes no attempt to be friendly. And I've been in some pretty good fights with all of them. :)
So to anyone who thinks they're playing a game by provoking people around here, you are. Just keep in mind what kind of game you're playing, and why people start treating you like shit when you don't stop. It was intended as a game in the first place, but it stopped being one when SBX and Sini jumped on the hate wagon for no apparent reason. Now all I'm doing is drawing attention to the fact that there's a deeper problem here.
This can go for Terez or for anyone else. Damn straight.
And, in that way, you're not just like Cholly, Terez. You're exactly like him. And, just like him, you refuse to admit it. I'm not, though. For one thing, Cholly just pops in every now and then to provoke people. He's not a member of this community in any way.
For another, where the fuck do you get off assuming that I'm provoking people just for the sake of provoking people (which is what you have been saying all along)? What justification do you have for jumping on the hate bandwagon? Is there a good reason? What makes what I do different from what you do?

That's an easy thing to say Sini, but is there any real meaning to that statement? You jumped on the hate wagon because you have an undying hatred for me - that much is obvious. I didn't refuse until after you and SBX posted.
Hmmm... For the Quotemistress' clarification on the time between statements:
7-9-2008, 5:09 PM:
Crispin's Crispian: "Please don't start this avatar crap here, T. It's really annoying."
7-9-2008, 5:10 PM:
Terez: "Why not? It's fun. :D "
7-9-2008, 5:16 PM:
Crispin's Crispian: "It makes me want to stop posting."
7-9-2008, 05:21 PM:
ShadowbaneX: "actually, Terez, no, it's not fun. It's pretty stupid actually. First Cholly, no this. Can we leave the immaturity behind please?"
So, from the time line, it would appear that the Quotemistress refused to not "start this avatar crap here", based on her comment "Why not? It's fun." with the smiley, indicating that she felt that her amusement is worth more than SDog's discomfort. As a Quotemistress, shouldn't one be able to look at the time stamps and determine the proper intervals before mis-posting that one did not refuse 'not to "start this avatar crap here"' until after SBX's comment, which clearly did not happen until 5 minutes after SDog's last comment on the issue. That's like improperly quoting that Dumai Wells happened before Sanche's removal as Amyrlin and then stating that this is correct even though the page numbers and events in the book indicate otherwise.
Regardless of the Avatar fun, MINE'S STILL BIGGER! ;)

You jumped on the hate wagon because you have an undying hatred for me - that much is obvious.
As much as I dislike to damage the carefully constructed persecution complex your building right now or puncture your inflated sense of self importance, I can honestly say that I don't hate you Terez. You're simply not that important to me. I've got better things and better people to invest that kind of emotional energy in. My reaction to you is this instance has nothing to do with any sort of bias you might claim I have against you. It had everything to do with sticking up for someone who I believed was being unfairly picked on.
And you SERIOUSLY believe I was being antagonistic...to MUTTLEY?
So in answer to your question, yes, I did think you were seriously being antagonistic to Sdog. And as SBX' reaction indicates, it wasn't an unreasonable conclusion either, unless of course SBX is out to get you too.
How little do you know about me?
All you do here on TL is project antagonism to anyone who doesn't agree with you Terez. It doesn't matter what is being discussed. We had the same problem while Callendor was here, and it was people getting fed up with that sort of attitude that led to his departure. Since he's gone you've taken up his torch, (though you certainly did your fair share while he was here) and now, with incidents like this, you are seeing the end results. How are we supposed to know you when all you serve up of yourself is condescension and scorn? Why should we bother? And why is it unreasonable for me to assume your are comporting yourself in this instance with the only character trait you have ever shown to me and many others here? You reap what you sow Terez. If you wanted more people to truly get to know you here and thus avoid issues such as this, then you should have thought about that before you alienated so many with your attitude and actions.

because most people here are stodgy, and the general idea of what passes for humor is pretty lame,
I only get pleasure out of annoying people that overreact to everything I say or do on this forum.
Lets see. You think most people on here are stodgy and have a lamer opinion of humor. I'm the opposite - I think a minority of people here don't fit with the rest, but the majority of folks here I genuinely like.
And I don't get pleasure out of annoying people. Poking fun, yes. Maybe even poking fun beyond the point of fun. But when I cross the line - and I have a lot - I either try to avoid the situations that cause it (ie, yelling at a certain poster) or try to apologize for my behavior. There was a poster named Bela I absolutely hated, and ended up leaving the board for nearly a year because. Why? Because it was lowering my enjoyment of the boards, and just as important, our incessant arguing was lowering everyone else's.
You enjoy a relatively small few here as far as companionship goes, and make a VERY big point of letting everyone know you don't like them. You throw it in everyone's faces, constantly. Even when people tell you they don't give a damn what you think, you seem to have t his urge to tell everyone anyway. That serves nobody except you.
And no, not everyone provokes everyone here. Most do, yes. But if you honestly believe everyone does, you suck at analyzing more than me, and I'm often horrible at it.
And if the vast majority of the board doesn't think it's fun, yet you continue, you show your contempt of the board. And that's selfish. It's tantamount to telling everyone you think their opinions are worthless, but you're going to keep hanging around and doing it anyways. It's the kid at the party no one likes refusing to get the hint to stop annoying the shit out of everyone.
despite the fact that a huge percentage of the board makes no attempt to be friendly.
You're flat out wrong here. A huge percentage of the board makes no attempt to be friendly with you - because you antagonize, you annoy, you belittle, and you act like a spoiled little bitch oft times. Not all the times - I've had fun times and good laughs at some of the stuff you've done, but it's been far outweighed by the others. You typically refuse to budge on anything once you've decided, and resort to belittling others (with a smiley attached, of course, since that makes everything okay) to show how inferior they are to you.
Now all I'm doing is drawing attention to the fact that there's a deeper problem here.
There is, but it isn't what you think. It's you refusing to stop when it's obvious that's what would benefit the board as a whole.
I'm not, though. For one thing, Cholly just pops in every now and then to provoke people. He's not a member of this community in any way.
In many ways, neither are you. You antagonize on purpose. You belittle on purpose. The first quote shows how little you think of most of the people on here -lame and stodgy. So at best, that leaves you with contributing a lot but actually belonging to the community very little - which are very separate issues.
What makes what I do different from what you do?
Simple having to ask that makes a huge difference, for one. I apologize. I make things right. I back off and leave folks be. I actually think that more people on the boards are my friends than aren't.
And, I didn't jump on the hate bandwagon. You're actions basically leave people the choice of with you or against. You refuse to accept middle grounds, as is constantly shown with how you attack, over and over, anyone who doesn't agree with you. I'm sorry you don't see it that way, but nearly everyone else does.
And maybe - just maybe - if everyone thinks you act a certain way, there's a small parcel or more of truth in it. It doesn't automatically make it true, but for you to outright reject it is poor judgment too.

Did you not read my posts? I'm not being antagonistic - I'm drawing attention to a deeper problem. If I let this one go, then another one will pop up before too long, because this same group of people overreacts to me on a regular basis, and I'm sick and tired of everyone acting like it's justified.

Lets see. You think most people on here are stodgy and have a lamer opinion of humor.I'm the opposite - I think a minority of people here don't fit with the rest, but the majority of folks here I genuinely like. Me too - there's only a handful that I genuinely dislike anyway. :D
And I don't get pleasure out of annoying people. Yes, you do. You just assume that your annoying of people is more altruistic than my own, with no good reason.
Poking fun, yes. Maybe even poking fun beyond the point of fun. But when I cross the line - and I have a lot - I either try to avoid the situations that cause it (ie, yelling at a certain poster) or try to apologize for my behavior. I tried to apologize several times back in the day for the incident that started all this hatred of me, and got spit on. So obviously there's no point in apologizing to those people. I try to avoid situations that cause flamewars too, but they follow me around whether I try to avoid them or not. The only way I can avoid them altogether is to stay away from Non completely, and I don't see why I should.
You enjoy a relatively small few here as far as companionship goes Which is fine with me - it's better to have a few good friends than a buttload of acquaintances.
and make a VERY big point of letting everyone know you don't like them. You throw it in everyone's faces, constantly. Even when people tell you they don't give a damn what you think, you seem to have t his urge to tell everyone anyway. That serves nobody except you. Do I really, DT? Provide me some examples then. Usually when I bring up the fact that I don't like certain people, it's in situations where they're being antagonistic.
And no, not everyone provokes everyone here. Most do, yes. But if you honestly believe everyone does, you suck at analyzing more than me, and I'm often horrible at it. Yeah, you're right - not everyone does it, but most do. That's what I was getting at. :) It's not uncommon to provoke people for fun.
And if the vast majority of the board doesn't think it's fun, yet you continue, you show your contempt of the board. What you still fail to understand is that I don't go looking for this sort of drama. It finds me. Just like it did in this instance: I do something that's provocative for humor - and it's OBVIOUSLY for humor, and nothing else...no ridicule, no insult, nothing like that - and all of a sudden people pile on to make a huge deal out of it. I realize that this is not important to you because it's not happening to you. It's happening to me. But it's important to me.
And that's selfish. It's not any more selfish than anyone else's desire to have a peaceful environment at Theoryland.
It's tantamount to telling everyone you think their opinions are worthless, but you're going to keep hanging around and doing it anyways. How so? I'm not telling everyone that I think their opinions are worthless.
It's the kid at the party no one likes refusing to get the hint to stop annoying the shit out of everyone. And it's exactly this fucked up perspective of me that perpetuates this kind of crap. I'm not out to get you, and I'm not out to annoy anyone. I much prefer a good discussion to this kind of crap.
You're flat out wrong here. A huge percentage of the board makes no attempt to be friendly with you - because you antagonize, you annoy, you belittle, and you act like a spoiled little bitch oft times. Again, that's a pretty fucked up perspective of me...but how am I wrong that most people make no attempt to be friendly? I haven't always been confident enough here to be arrogant - I can remember my days of meekness at Theoryland well, and I distinctly remember a great deal of outright unfriendliness from certain people.
Not all the times - I've had fun times and good laughs at some of the stuff you've done, but it's been far outweighed by the others. Such as what? Give examples, please...
You typically refuse to budge on anything once you've decided How is that any different from like 80% + of the posters here?
and resort to belittling others (with a smiley attached, of course, since that makes everything okay) to show how inferior they are to you. Again, this is probably overanalyzing what I say...people often think that I am trying to belittle them when I'm not. Usually when I get to the point of actually trying to belittle someone, it's after a great deal of obnoxious posting on their part.
There is, but it isn't what you think. It's you refusing to stop when it's obvious that's what would benefit the board as a whole. I realize that most people that hang out on Non would be tickled pink if I went away altogether, and I realize that this little spot of drama is annoying to some, but again, I'm tired of everyone overreacting to everything I say and do. I'm not going away, and I think that the board as a whole will benefit if people STOP DOING IT. And they're not going to stop doing it if I just let them do it without saying anything about it.
In many ways, neither are you. Not because of a lack of trying on my part.
You antagonize on purpose. Now we're You belittle on purpose. Again, you're assuming things about me that aren't true.
The first quote shows how little you think of most of the people on here -lame and stodgy. Another tease being blown entirely out of proportion. :)
So at best, that leaves you with contributing a lot but actually belonging to the community very little - which are very separate issues. If you say so. There's a huge difference between someone who posts here every day (most of the time, quite politely) and someone who only posts once in a blue moon for no other reason than to antagonize people.
Simple having to ask that makes a huge difference, for one. I apologize. I make things right. I back off and leave folks be. I actually think that more people on the boards are my friends than aren't. The fact that most people on this board are not my friends is just a fact that I have to deal with. I've tried working out things with people but apparently it's more entertaining for them to hate me, so I don't get much of anything resembling effort from them to work things out. I try to make things right, but it's difficult to back off and leave things be when I get attacked as often as I do.
What makes you think that I refuse to accept middle grounds? You're speechifying a lot here but not making a great deal of sense. I don't attack, over and over, people that don't agree with me. Where are you getting this from? And you jumped on the hate wagon when you said that I was no different from Cholly.
And maybe - just maybe - if everyone thinks you act a certain way, there's a small parcel or more of truth in it. It doesn't automatically make it true, but for you to outright reject it is poor judgment too. Oh, there's a small parcel of truth in it - I can be arrogant sometimes, that's for sure. I do think it's extremely inaccurate to pretend that this is the reason why people don't like me, because a great number of people here are arrogant. :) I also think that a great number of people are FAR more offensive with their posting style than I am, and I'm incredulous that a certain group of people doesn't seem to see it.
And for SBX...you said "first Cholly, now this. Can we leave the immaturity behind please?" That's a clear comparison between me and Cholly, with the implicit assumption that I was just doing it to make people angry, which reveals a fundamental misunderstand of how my brain works...
And for DA...I NEVER outed anyone's personal information on the boards. You did that, remember?

The total over-reaction to all this has been rather astounding
Since Terez conveniently failed to respond to my last post or bother to answer any of the questions I asked her, I'll try you Marie. How it is "astonishing" given the track record Terez has amassed with us in insults, condescension, scorn, and belligerence? Even if it was an overreaction in this specific instance, her history of antagonism with most of us has set her up for these sorts of things to happen. When all someone does is sh!t all over everyone else, then that is what everyone will come to expect her to do, whether she's doing it or not.

There's no comparing them there, there's me saying the equivalent of, dammit, first today I got into a car accident and now a bird took a dump on my nice new suit. I'm merely just stating there some other annoyance happneded after the first annoyance.

yes, I did lump you two together, the injury, then the insult.
Anaiya's thread was something which violates most internet paranoia: putting pictures, beatiful pictures I might add, up where any jackass can make stupid comments. It was brave of her, and she paid for it. First , the injury, Cholly's comments.
Then the insult your avatar changing antics, as you could not have picked a worse place for it. Pull that anywhere else on this board and I'm 95% sure nothing comes of it. The fact that you picked Anaiya's thread after that crap happened, that's what set things off.
Oh, and I can see why you made the assumption, but that doesn't change the fact that you made the mistake. You thought that I was being a stodgy old bastard (paraphrasing of course) and then decided to push your joke on further, trying to provoke an even greater response out of the old sticks in the mud at Theoryland.

As much as I dislike to damage the carefully constructed persecution complex your building right now or puncture your inflated sense of self importance, I can honestly say that I don't hate you Terez. You're simply not that important to me. I've got better things and better people to invest that kind of emotional energy in. Then why do you invest so much energy into being hateful?
My reaction to you is this instance has nothing to do with any sort of bias you might claim I have against you. It had everything to do with sticking up for someone who I believed was being unfairly picked on. That's just laughable, Sini. Muttley can stick up for himself, and everyone knows it (except maybe you?). You just take every opportunity that comes your way to jump on the hate bandwagon...
So in answer to your question, yes, I did think you were seriously being antagonistic to Sdog. And as SBX' reaction indicates, it wasn't an unreasonable conclusion either, unless of course SBX is out to get you too. What does SBX's reaction have to do with it? How does his reaction in any way give you an insight into what's going on in my head? That's about as illogical as it gets right there.
All you do here on TL is project antagonism to anyone who doesn't agree with you Terez. All I do? I understand that you don't hang out in WoT discussion but that statement hardly applies to what I do on Non, either. I just post to topics that interest me - I don't go around trying to pick fights.
How have I taken up Callandor's torch? And Callandor's reasons for leaving are his own, and not what you make them out to be.
How are we supposed to know you when all you serve up of yourself is condescension and scorn? If you paid any attention, you'd realize that this is NOT all I offer up. You're projecting a false impression of me onto everything that I say.
Why should we bother? If you bothered to try to get to know me, then you'd realize that I'm not the antagonist that you make me out to be.
And why is it unreasonable for me to assume your are comporting yourself in this instance with the only character trait you have ever shown to me and many others here? Again, you're projecting an image of me that is untruthful, and also, just because I have done something wrong before (I have, and so have you) is not a reason to assume that everything I do has some sort of evil motive behind it.
You reap what you sow Terez. If you wanted more people to truly get to know you here and thus avoid issues such as this, then you should have thought about that before you alienated so many with your attitude and actions. What you don't seem to realize is that my "attitude and actions" have for the most part been in RESPONSE to the crap that I've had to put up with here. I don't go out of my way to alienate people. I'm willing to be friends with ANYONE else who is willing to be friends, including you. ;) There was a time recently when you were being really nice, and we were having nice discussions, but unfortunately it didn't last long...

Hold up...why are you trying to make it look like I started antics on Anaiya's thread? All I did was change my avatar, which shows up EVERYWHERE - Muttley just happened to comment on it in Anaiya's thread. Since that's where he commented on it, that's where I responded. I like Anaiya, and she knows that, and I really doubt she took any insult at it anyway - I think it's much more likely she took insult to the using of her thread to pile on Terez (though she probably didn't take any insult to that either, really).
You were wrong Terez. You read the wrong thing, you imagined the wrong response, and then you went off further on this for more 'epic lulz'.

I didn't leave it out. You posted it rather clearly, I felt that it didn't need to be repeated.
Where I'm from a comparison is a measure of quantity. I've since given that measure Cholly >>> Terez in the annoyance department. Since you point it out though.
I did classify them in the same area, ie negatively, but, Terez's little avatar switch is orders of magnitude below what Cholly did...so, I guess we disagree on the definition of a comparison Marie. All of it doesn't change the fact that Terez read it the wrong way, and then because of that misinterpretation started going out and trying to push people's buttons.
She then saw Sinistrum backing up my call for some decorum and assumed that the entire board were signing up en-mass for Ye Olde Humourless Phartes Club and then went off and started showing how hip and edgy she is, by waving her fun and youthful antics in our collective faces...completely and utterly missing the fact that she didn't get what I was trying to put across, and then kept making things worse by insisting on driving the tastelessness into the floor and down into the basement.
Oh, I completely get what happened, I'm not so far into the asshatery department that I don't see what's going on. In fact, I was the first to realise what was going on when I read Terez's post citing me as the whole bad guy in this, since it was my grumpy unfunny demand that she stop her simple innocent fun that started all this...right?
And, that quote is a little older, when, I believe, Diet Coke did only have 1 calorie...actually, iirc, he's quoting their advertisment campaign.

You can offer those all you want, the fact of that matter is that not everyone is going to get along. The fact of the matter is that the way you present everything, rubs some people the wrong way, just as surely as they way they are, rubs you the wrong way.
Want to know why there'll never be world peace? It's because we can't 'just all get along'. The only real alternative is to just enjoy what we can, make sure we don't rub others in our own seperate personal opinions and just deal with it.
We're not going to come to some ground breaking, world shatter peace agreement here. Crap will happen in the future, but who knows, next time it'll be me and Sini getting into whether or not the US is War Monger or not, or it'll be over religion or politics or gun registration, or gay marriage or drug laws or whatever the hot topic of the moment is.

I don't accept that, though, because there's no real reason for us to not all be able to get along. Someone said the same thing last time around, and I didn't buy it then, and I don't buy it now. We're all adults here. Yeah, our opinions are going to rub each other the wrong way sometimes. But that doesn't mean we have to go out of our way to antagonize people. It gets really old...

Wow, what a thread. Here in Denmark we are all reading this thread and lauging about it.
LOL and what did I cause :))))
Sini, you and I havent gone into a discussion for a long long time, i think years, because i also stayed out of it.
Terez on the other hand, kept annoying me and calling me stupid and trying to bait me in a lot of threads.
Terez: I dont like the way you are discussing, calling other people stupid and keep baiting people.
If you stop that then we might get more along.
I think people are extending friendship, but they are not doing that after they have formed their opinion. Remember Las Vegas, everyone was trying to be friendly with each other. I also remember years back you were one of the people popular in the chat. Now it isnt anymore.
If lots of people say something, they must have a reason for saying it. Even if there is a small grain of truth.
Just change your attitude a bit, and people might be more friendly later.
And about being friends, a lot of people might hate my guts as well, and I dont think Sinistrum and me really can have civil discussions about US politics.
Not everyone will get along with each other, nothing to change about it. I mean, Gil and me almost disagree on everything. I like her, but thats sometimes a bit annoying. I am sure she finds it also annoying we cannot agree on anything :P

so... speaking of pissing people off...
Terez... have you looked into what kind of social clubs there are in your area?
i really think you need to get out more... maybe take some long walks... date someone of your own species... and age...
i mean... i kNOW you got rejected by Callie but there's really no reason for that to bumm you out to a point where you have to alienate yourself on-line.
lots of people here have met and still meets on and off. you i think more have a need to validate yourself through the negative influence you try to have on people...
i think a qoute comes to mind...
see not for people to know you
seek to be worth knowing
maybe you could apply some of that in real life?

That's bad timing, that is.

Does that sentence make sense?
It does make sense, though you may need to use a large club to beat the sense out of it so that you can see it. But, to use the politically correct term, the sentence is severely grammatically challenged.
None of you have given even a halfway decent reason why you think the hateful response was justified.
I don't know whether or not it is a decent reason (it's not a reasonable one, but then, humans aren't known for reason), but it seems to me that you severely underestimated the attachment people have to their avatars. And if even I notice something like that, then it has to be rather blatantly obvious.
Whats next? A beer with Gonzo? A mutual agreement?
Sinistrum and I have agreed on something. Two somethings, actually, now that I think back on it. I can't remember what the first something was, anymore. But the second one was that we were both horrified at having to admit the other was right. I handled it better, of course.
I ain't gonna drink no beer. I've tried that before, and I have no inclination at all to repeat the experiment.

I never provoked you as much as you made out - you also have often overreacted to things I've said. Also, what have I done lately that would cause you to make the comment that you did? We've had some arguments in the past, but I don't have any hard feelings over them - why are you holding a grudge about it?

Yeah, and I know exactly what events caused the public opinion to shift, and I know that it involved a lot of overreaction on a lot of people's parts.
If lots of people say something, they must have a reason for saying it. Even if there is a small grain of truth.
I have already admitted that there is of course at least a grain of truth in people's justifications for treating me the way they do. But a grain of truth isn't the whole hog, and I'm not the only one that can see how much hypocrisy is inherent in most of these accusations.
Just change your attitude a bit, and people might be more friendly later.
I see no reason to change who I am, nor could I if I tried - I'm a smartass, but I'm not as mean-spirited as people make me out to be.

Of course people are going to disagree on stuff, but that doesn't mean we can't get along. :)

~Sigh~
I go away for 12 hours and miss this.
Terez, I don't have a problem with your attitude, and you've never really done anything to make me mad at you. But if so many other people are making the effort to say that you are bothering them to a certain degree, maybe you could agree to calm it down a bit? And then maybe everyone else would stop overreacting, as you put it, and we could all be friends? :D

Calm what down a bit? Seriously...like I said, I am the way I am, and I can't change it, and I've learned from experience that being nice doesn't help much. That doesn't stop me from being nice most of the time, now does it?
And then maybe everyone else would stop overreacting, as you put it, and we could all be friends? :D
Like I said, it doesn't seem to matter if I'm polite - people overreact to everything I do anyway. Perhaps if people stopped being so paranoid about me being out to get them, and reading mayhem into my every intention, then we could all get along? Perhaps if, every time someone has a minor issue with something I say or do, the whole board doesn't pile on to the hate bandwagon against me, then we could all get along?
I am not by far the only person on this board that loses their temper from time to time - why am I the only one that gets persecuted for it?
I'm not impressed by the fact that the group of haters is so large either, because I know a little bit about how groupthink works. I can't see a logical reason for why my flaws are deemed to be so much worse than everyone else's, and no one has managed to convince me that mine are worse than everyone else's, so what can I do but attribute it to groupthink?

You are who you are. Great. As long as you are comfortable with that, which you seem to be, keep being who are you. I was just saying if you know something is going to bother someone, try not to do it; I don't think that is taking away from who you are.
You say everyone else will still overreact, well if that happens, ignore them. Don't pick a fight. I do think you've been treated unfairly, but I don't think all the blame can be put on everyone else. And I don't see what good arguing does about it. It seems to have gotten everyone madder. I know you want to get it out there, so it can be over with, but I don't think that approach is working.
Like I said, don't get me wrong; I have no problem with you, I'm just attempting to be diplomatic here. :p

Where I come from, saying first Cholly, now this (=Terez's comments) is definitely a comparison.
That's funny, 'cause where I come from, someone saying "Why not? It's fun." is a refusal to stop doing something based on the speaker's own amusement. However, that has been deemed to be irrelevant by one person, so in the same vein, this has to be deemed irrelevant.

Oh god, that comment right there just makes my entire argument for me...
Are you serious? How on earth does asking "why not" equal a refusal? I've asked you before but you seem to think that saying it over and over will make it true.

^^^Theoryland Retro Cat
Ok. Honestly? 200+ posts about this? Is this really Theoryland? 200 posts about the war in Iraq, understandable. 200 posts on whether or not Terez was out of line? Who gives a shit! This has dominated the last... what? Three days? Don't we have anything better to do?
So what if it's only like 170 because the thread needs to die and so I LolCat-ed it. If I were Terez right now, and the whole board had ganged up on me, regardless of whether I was wrong or not, I'd be pissed enough to drag it out. That's why threads like this get locked. Clearly I'm inable to do so. I'd hoped enough LolCats would scare you folks away, but clearly I was wrong.

that doesn't mean we have to go out of our way to antagonize people. It gets really old...
I find this ironically amusing as it seems you're the one doing the antagonizing.
Now, it's probably not intentional on your part, but I seem to recall several instances where several posters have been antagonized by stuff that you've done. "Smart ass" attitude, if taken wrong can seem like antagonistic, I should know, I share the same attitude.
Thing is when I pull that routine with alot of people, it usually garners laughs (even when I think I've gone over the line). When you try to pull it off, it seems like antagonism. Don't entirely know why, but perhaps people are only responding to what they're sensing in your, not just going out and being crotchety old asshats on general principle.

schizofrenic paranoia much?
seriously... decide then move along. why do you even stick around if everyone is so horrible?
wouldn't it be better for you to find somewhere else to go, and stay away from TL?
