So I went to Wal-Mart tonight and noticed that one of my favorite cereals as a child was on sale: Cookie Crisp. Two bucks for a box! (incidentally, i've noticed cereal box sizes have gone down, in addition to the ice cream and such mentioned in that other thread over there *waves vaguely*)

As I was in the aisle, I noticed something peculiar.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but there used to be three mascots for Cookie Crisp, right?

Cookie Crook,
Chip the Dog
and Officer Crumb.

But wait, now look at the box!

What gives?

I think they changed Chip cause he was fat :/

They probably did. Look at that wolf. He's probably bulemic.

lol - and not to mention how "politicaly incorrect" the whole thing was before. What I dont like and something that has ruined my childhood favorite cereal is old trix compared to new trix crap. I cannot even bring myself to eat the crap :(

The Trix thing is weird and I don't get it. But I feel sorry for the Trix Rabbit.

Why? He just doesn't get it. Rules are rules.

Trix are for kids. Not rabbits.

Wait, the cookie crisp maskot hasn't always been that wolf? Really? o_O?

Then again, I always just ate Kix, crispix, and cinnamon toast crunch

I never paid any attention to what was on the boxes. I just ate it.

Maybe the shapes does a Ishamael and returns every 40 years? :D

And btw, aren't Trix for kids? Stupid rabbit... :)

The cookie crisp thingy seemed like it could be good though, but unfortunatly it would be socially unacceptable for me to eat any since I'm over the age of 12... :)
I'll stick to the Kellogs All Bran myself, that or oatmeal with uuuh... fermented milk you call it?

Terez

Buttermilk?

Mort
07-15-2008, 06:33 AM
Buttermilk?

WTH? What is that? :)

It's kinda like milk but... thicker? You use it instead of milk with your cereal more or less, keeps you from getting hungry longer. Dunno what you call it, maybe it's not even common in usa, I think I've heard it isnt.

WTH? What is that?
As Wikipedia could have told you (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttermilk), it is spoiled milk:
Buttermilk is a fermented dairy product produced from cow's milk with a characteristically sour taste.
So, basically, you start out with sour milk, you let it go off, and then you sell it.

PS As some may have figured out, I don't like the stuff.

Dunno what you call it, maybe it's not even common in usa, I think I've heard it isnt.Buttermilk is sold in pretty much every grocery store in the US, but it's not typically used for anything other than cooking. Because it tastes horrible. :p

Don't some people take baths in buttermilk?

Terez
07-15-2008, 07:27 AM
Yeah, it's supposed to be good for your skin. Or something. Or was that goat's milke? Either way, probably an old wives' tale. :D

Of course, if they don't look like old wives, then there might be something in the story after all.

I'll have to look it up; maybe Mythbusters did something with it...

I guess it's not buttermilk I'm thinking of then, because this stuff is pretty good :)

In addition, I do believe there used to be THREE chefs for Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and where the hell have Snap, Crackle and Pop gone from Rice Krispies?

I bet it's cause Pop was fat and so was Wendell. Seriously.

Whatever happened to Sugar Bear, the Billy Dee Williams of cereal mascots?

Yogurt?

Yogurt is fairly common in the US, but not as an additive for breakfast cereal and it's usually thicker than you're describing.

Yogurt isn't it, although it's also very good, better than the highly pastorized milk thingy I'm thinking of too.

The nearest US equivalent you're thinking of is evaporated milk, IIRC, or something similar. What you're talking about isn't sold here.

Your loss then :) It's a pretty decent breakfast alternative, with yummy bacteria (some have it) in it that is good for your stomach.

My grandpa used to drink buttermilk. I like buttermilk biscuits, and it is good as a sort of marinade (you dip in the buttermilk, then in the flour or whatever you're using) if you are frying chicken or pork chops. It also makes good gravy.

Morts not talking about cottage cheese is he? It has bacteria in it...as I found out when I was sick last year and I was eating tons of that and yogurt trying to get my gut back in line.

Mort

Not cottage cheese either :)

I wish I had a youtube clip of what I am speaking of :)

It's very near yogurt, they just contain diffrent sets of milkacid bacteria.

Spot on Zeala, I should have checked ol' wikipedia. But it is actually quite good :) Nothing to gag about, very similar to yogurt, but less sour.

Talking about food, I got real hungry when I saw chickens marinated in buttermilk and then deep fried on youtube. Damn!

Mort, my friend, you would enjoy a stint in the south. I could feed you some of the best food you'd ever eat. You can't imagine how good a buttermilk cathead (http://www.deltablues.net/biscuit.html) is...makes my mouth water thinking about it. Then you add a good sausage gravy over the top...man, I'm gonna have to quit talking about food on here.

And fried okra. And fried catfish.

And mudbugs. Sweden is one of the few European countries that likes mudbugs...

Taer, I'll come to Memphis if you can get me some real fried fish and decent pups. Yummy! Of course I'd go to London for Fish and Chips with some malt vinegar...

What kind of fish do you want? Catfish is all you can eat at several places on monday nights. I can get you sauger, crappie, striper, all kinds of fish. I can even do crawfish in the right months. And pups...c'mon, it's Memphis, everyone knows how to make good pups. Just depends on if you want them sweet or not or with jalapeno...or sweet with jalapeno.

Gotta love a fish that tells you it's crap right in the name...

I don't have PD's COMPLETE aversion to fish -- but I don't care for most fish. I like Mahimahi, Trout and, of course, Tuna (midwest style -- Miracle Whip and Sweet Pickles -- waits for the hurling of sharp objects).

I had Swordfish at a restaurant once - it was pretty good.

Ahi Tuna is proof God loves me and wants me to be happy. Sear it and serve it rare with spinach salad and a nice red. Now you damn kids get off my lawn.

I loooove fish. I like Tilapia and Salmon. I like Tuna if you make it right. Not sure I've ever had a tuna steak though.. mostly just the canned tuna stuff.

Mmmmm . . . . .salmon. I love going out to Seattle to visit the family. You actually get a choice as to the type of salmon you can eat.

Ick to the fish....

I can get down a nice Maine Lobster Tail if I must, but thats about it.

As for the Buttermilk...cooking with it is one thing...thats very tasty...Drinking something similar to it is a whole other story.

God, I miss fish. Especially a rare tuna steak, grilled MahiMahi, swordfish, and all the other heavy fish. I'm stuck with fresh water fish for the near future.
