This is personally a big deal to me as I spent a nice chunk of time personally helping search for him when I was in Bosnia. He's a piece of human scum and responsible for Srebenica so I hope they take good care of him. We came so very close to snatching him on at least a few occasions but he always got away. Its good to see him finally in custody.

Unfortunately because he's being tried in the ICC, the most he will ever get probably is house arrest for the remainder of his life.

They should do the same things to him that were done to the Muslim boys at Srebenica.

You know, if he's confined to his house...

We could get that pilot that wrecked up the rented SUV to be given a target about a mile away, and he could 'miss' again....

How about if they peel the skin from his body in strips 5 mm wide and 100 mm long until they're done.

Ewww, Hopper. I'm all for death to Karadzic, but that's disgusting.

The guy (if you can call him that) will be put in confinement for the rest of his life.

Great to see him get caught.

Unfortunately the European sense of justice and appropriate punishment is to "civilized" for that. Or so they keep telling us it is anyways...

I could write a long rambling post about the evils of the death penalty and the need to be above those you prosecute in response to sini's snide comment, but fuck it. Rip the bastard to shreds, he deserves it.

Well, some Europeans. After all, Karadzis is a European too, and I wouldn't want to accuse him of being civilized. He might be, compared to Americans, of course. I don't think it is my place to comment on that. Not in this thread, at least.

I do think it is interesting to note that the same persons who were (and are, probably) so strongly opposed to the ICC because it would be harsh and unfair to Americans are also firmly convinced that the same kind of justice is too soft and uncertain for what they consider real war criminals.

It has nothing to do with the people for or against the ICC. It just means the ICC is getting it wrong in both instances pointed out. Surely you're not suggesting there is any basis of comparison between a criticism levied because the charges getting a person before the ICC are arbitrary or flat out trumped up and one because the punishments set are not fitting the crime when the charges are legitimate?

Do you have any but made up examples of people being hauled in front of the ICC on trumped up charges?
There haven't been all that many cases until now, and from what I know of it all of them seemed quite reasonable. Whether or not they hold up in court is of course a matter for the judges, but there hasn't been a case that I thought was entirely without merit.

No I don't but that is because the U.S. hasn't given the ICC the opportunity to be used as a political tool by it's opponents by refusing to participate. That possibility, at least as applied to the U.S., was headed off at the pass.

Serbia is lucky. Not every country has war criminals they can conveniently "locate" when they want entry in to the E.U.

I'm starting to think it's their greatest natural resource.

Supposedly Karadzic made a deal with the U.S. to disappear for a while in exchange for immunity (according to him anyway). Considering how many times we came "this close" ~holds fingers 1" apart~ from capturing him while I was in country...I begin to wonder if it all wasn't an act to convince NATO and the world that we were really trying...or the more likely option is that he's full of S-H-I-T.
