I'm thinking about becoming one. All I need is the sack to stand up in front of a bunch of people, the musical talent to be able to learn an instrument and play it decently, and this:

If you're female, then you can substitute occasional wardrobe malfunctions for (a lot of) musical talent. If you're male, then having a wardrobe may count against you.

Alternately, you could pick an instrument that would fit into your local small-time orchestra, learn to play it for a few years and join in. It would remove the requirement to "stand up in front of a bunch of people" out of the equation. (and it's a lot of fun :) )

OMG I want one!!!

The trick to playing in front of a crowd is to be playing with many people - that way, they won't know if you're the one making the mistakes or not. ;)

In all seriousness, if you know math, you can play any guitar - that's what my dad did to learn XD Granted, some musical talent wouldn't hurt, either. :D

Btw, do you have a picture from another angle? I thought it was a banjo till I saw Juan's post, pointing out it's a bass...

"That's no banjo."

"That's no banjo."

I was so sure someone would say " you play that? You're braver than I thought." or something similar.

One of my friends is a guitarist who used to tour with Dave Matthews back in the 1990s. He's in an Irish folk band now in Vermont. He has some pretty interesting stories to tell about being in front of crowds of 80K+...and about how even those musicians dealt with stage fright.
