Copiale Cipher Cracked (http://news.discovery.com/tech/18th-century-secret-cipher-cracked-111025.html)

It's hardly the Holy Grail of crypto mysteries, but pretty cool nonetheless.

It looks like it was just some kind of slightly-less-than-simple substitution cipher, but I'm still looking for the exact details.

Such ciphers naturally have enormous keyspaces, but are vulnerable to frequency analysis.

I'm still waiting to see when the Beale, Voynich, and K4 are cracked. Though the first two are in all probability a hoax (though not necessarily (and even likely not) gibberish).

The Zodiac ciphers were all substitution, I believe, and there are still two unsolved, as far as I know.

That's awesome. Since I read Cryptonomicon I've been fascinated with this kind of stuff. Pretty cool if they can start cracking a lot of the different coded text that has been stumping us for years.

This is why you cipher through multiple types of cryptography! :D And use keyed ciphers!

:D

This is very cool. I want some 4096-bit encryption! :D
