Okay then.

Apparently, its not okay to try and tell kids to eat vegetables/healthier food but it IS okay to tell them to eat more potatoes, salt and pizza.

O.o Huh?

I mean, sure, salt is good for you and all (and so are potatoes) - IN MODERATION - but, really, tomato paste is a vegetable? Do they realize how ridiculous they sound? Tomatoes =/= vegetables, for one thing (which is a common misconception, but still).

According to Congress, kids shouldn't be eating healthier - apparently they don't care whether their kids are obese or not.

When you guys grow tired of your government's faults, come join us up here, in the Great White North. There's plenty of room further north, and there's bacon for you if you do. ;) Real Canadian Bacon. Think about it.

This is the same institution that previously told us that ketchup was a vegetable back during the Reagan years. Honestly, this is a step up.

As for sodium, there are no real indications that sodium is all that bad for you. The "Salt=Bad" craze was somewhat misguided. Hell, our sodium intake is far, far lower than it was 100 years ago or even 50 years ago. The invention/widespread use of refrideration has really cut down on our salt intake.

Go make pickles from a pre-refridgeration recipe. You literally have to soak them in fresh water to make them edible again due to the amount of salt used in the brining process.

To this I say: Dirt. C'est tellement Dirt. I don't plan on making pickles with a pre-refrigeration recipe any time soon, thanks. :)

Wow. Just... Wow.

Oh, and it's all loaded with MSG which just makes the kids want more, too.

Some conservatives in Congress have called the push for healthier foods an overreach, saying the government shouldn't be telling children what to eat.Teach the controversy: some say that huge portions of overly salted greasy potato chips are healty, warmongering liberal 'experts' say that serving a wider array of vegetables is healthier. Let the kids choose themselves, or, better yet, let the local schoolboards decide. They are grown ups who are thoroughly familiar with the local situation, after all.

Success or not? You decide. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe's_law)

I would've repped you for that, were it not for the obvious fact that Congress has preempted you.

Ask them, after having eaten a whole bag of chips, if they feel up to running around, or if they don't feel like doing anything else that day.

It's just like in Calvin and Hobbes, when Calvin wants to start smoking - his mom lets him smoke a cigarette just to show him how bad it is, thereby convincing him not to smoke (http://blog.djapoc.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/ch860525.jpg) (and not to trust his parents, either, but I digress).

This is funny (from the article):
The changes had been requested by food companies that produce frozen pizzas, the salt industry and potato growers.
Oh! Hello, smoking gun. I'm surprised the pundits didn't see you there...

Um, aren't these the same congresspeoples who are putting together a bill that, well, tells children what to eat?

You can tell children what gets crammed into their brains, but not what gets crammed into their gullets? does not compute!

Nope. We're supposed to remain a nation of fat little factory drones, regurgitating what we're spoon-fed by an overly permissive media.

And thinking isn't allowed.

The sad thing is, it's not even a conspiracy, it's just the way things have been allowed to occur.

Best news I've had all week!

Now if we can just get jelly donuts to be officially recognized as the fruits they are, my healthy diet plan will be fully legitimized!

Give me some time, guys. I'm looking for investors for my much healthier food plan (some of you know what I'm talking about). If you know anyone who wants to invest, I have an email addy to give you.

Clearly the Green Giant needs a better lobbyist.

heck yes! So the pizza I had for lunch that had spinach, broccoli, onions, and feta cheese counts for like 6 servings of veggies.

I'mma skip running tonight since I ate so healthy already.

The multiple trips through the line at CiCi's featured white pizza with pepperoni, sausage and pepperoni, BBQ chicken and Mac & Cheese.

I LOVE being a vegetarian!

Chicken-flied lice is quite good, too. ;) AND it's a good source of protein.

Um this is Congress we're talking about. Is anyone honestly surprised by any kind of nonsense out of them?To be a bit more accurate: it is the Republican wing of Congress which is behind this. With that addition, though, surprise at them being entirely nonsensical would indeed be either naive or an act.

Is there anyone here who is willing to support the Republican Party in this?
