... here's an introduction thread!
Well, first of all, I have been a very obsessive fan of WoT for many years - all due to my elder brother (who is 16 years my senior). I pinched one of his books way back when I was 9 or 10 (around about 1993 or 94) - this was 'Book One' of the Mallorean... After realising I was jumping into a book half-way through the series I went back and 'liberated' a different book... this time EotW proper 'Book One' gorram David Eddings!].
It literally took me a few months to get from Dragonmount to Winternight... maybe a mixture of my impatient youth and the odd change of story from a crazy mountain raising man to a ginger farm boy... but when the Bebops and Rocksteadys started crashing through that door... I was hooked.
Since then I've went through a few stages of fandom, from obsessing over wotmania to levelling my male channeler in the MUD. (
I think I quit the MUD a few weeks after my character started going crazy... I was young and the code they used to simulate craziness was amazingly clever - to the point that it freaked me out a little :o )
I had a period where the obsession was sedated [probably CoT], but flamed through again when by chance I walked into a bookstore on the release day of KoD.
I remember the day, two months after the fact, when I learned of the passing of the much loved and missed Mr. Rigney.
Then the excitement that followed with the announcement that his story would be finished – this of course has now lead to a love of Mr. Sanderson’s works – I enjoy reading his books as you can literally see this man become a legendary writer – he was pretty amazing to begin with, but the growth of his ability - and our luck in witnessing it - is something astounding...
I have been a frequent lurker of Theoryland for a few years... and have probably read the db's compiled by Terez more times than I would care to admit... but I have never been a 'forum' type [as present evidence suggests, I can be quite verbose] - I am here mostly at the suggestion of my lady friend, who has become quite sick of hearing about how the character that Chris Helmsworth played is an ispiration for this hairy man called Perrin (As a result, Thor was a fun movie for me, not for her :D ).
But anyway - HELLO!! :D
