Anyone else read it? I have to get the latest book or two, but I really enjoyed them. It covers the time period surrounding Alfred the Great's day, in Saxon England as they battle with the viking raiders/would-be conquerors. The main character is a fictitious character, but he's often near or talking with some of the well-known names of the day such as Alfred himself, Ivar, and Alfred's nephew whose name is escaping me but was totally unfit to succeed the throne. Anyway, the books can be a bit brutal in language/content, but not flagarently so. No more, and probably less than, say, Song of Ice and Fire.

I imagine those of us that finish WoT books in a couple of days could, if they wanted, cruise through one of these books in a day. They're not WoT-length. The pace is good though, and has a decent mix of action and intruege, with probably more action.

Anyway, came to mind when I saw others were poking around for possible books/series to read.

Is it half as good as the Warlord Chronicles by Cornwell?
