Just got an email saying that someone tried to log in more than 5 times on my TL account. Anyone else got an email saying that?
The IP belongs to some asian ISP it seems, or at least a web hotel.

I got the same email. Or a similar one. I suspect a spam bot is trying something new. Could become messy if it succeeds.

One of the most secure passwords you can use, if it'll let you, is a phrase.

Not "cheeseburger" but "i like cheezits". "I like 5 Cheezits" is even better.

Password crackers usually don't try multiple words.

Mine too. I had a message the other day saying someone had tried to log into my account (I realise this has been discussed to death elsewhere), so I thought I'd take a look and the whole board's changed while I've been away! Incidentally, the board says I've not logged in for over two years, but that's b*llocks, I think it's been about 5 months.

Hope everyone's ok. As I've said previously I'm so busy at work (as of next week I'll be a fully qualified solicitor (that's a lawyer, no giggling at the back)) that I barely have time to check my email, but have I missed anything good?

Yeah - I'm not sure how this thread got over here - I sort of wanted it separate really as a "hello I'm (sort of) back" as much as anything!

I'm pretty ok, been crazy busy job-wise - it's weird to think I was still at high school when I first lurked on here, I joined when I was an undergraduate, and as of next week I'll be a fully qualified solicitor! I think I popped up to tell people I'd got engaged, but I've really not had enough time to keep up here. I miss it really! It's also 2am here, which gives a little bit of an idea about how my schedule works...

Hmm... I've been using the same password for the last eight years for almost everything; of course it is an insanely long 'word' made up of a seemingly random combination of letters and numbers.

The only password I change regularly is my online banking one; I doubt I would really care if someone hacked into any of my other internet things - even my email account has very few business-related emails or emails of importance.

Your account on Theoryland Message Boards has been locked because someone has tried to log into the account with the wrong password more than 5 times. You will be able to attempt to log in again in another 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 209.160.24.43

Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Use the link below:
http://www.theoryland.com/vbulletin/login.php?do=lostpw

Anyone else get the same IP address? It's not mine, so whomever knows far more about them can do with it what they wish. I care about a person trying to access my account about as much as I care for people who smoke.

Just wait for the irony.

They seem to be a huge hosting outfit, so likely our russian mafia friend from the bay area is running his pw hacks through them, all some of what I've seen indicates they don't respond to abuse complaints. http://Wikipedia: Superb Internet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superb_Internet)

Morning,

Over the last 2 weeks, I've received notification twice that my account was locked due to someone attempting to log in and failing. I know it wasn't me either time, since I was busy and had not logged into the message boards since August some time. Is this a common issue, should I be concerned, or what?

Thanks!

Happening to most of us there is a thread on Non-WoT about it.

You should start a thread in the new user's forum. Just so we can welcome you properly.

Just got an email saying that someone tried to log in more than 5 times on my TL account. Anyone else got an email saying that?
The IP belongs to some asian ISP it seems, or at least a web hotel.

Yup got the same message twice. Hope it blows over and not messes up our nice little cubbyhole over here ;)

Oops, didn't notice there was another thread elsewhere, I had just done a quick check while at work. But, good to know I wasn't the only one. Sorry about the mis-placed thread!

Can we make a thread for people who didn't get it? It would be much shorter.

Birgitte

But then Anaiya would probably go insane with only herself to talk to.

Don't worry about it. I've merged 2 or 3 other threads into this one so far.

Hahaha, this is a little ridiculous. I was thinking we should start a poll instead- you know 150 hit, 1 not hit. :D

Well thank God we all have Super Sexiness in common still, or our threesome would have to be dissolved.

I solved the problem by waiting a little bit, then logging in myself. I figured they couldn't try to log in if I was already logged in.

I guess at some point, the folks responsible will eventually crack somebody's password and perhaps change that person's password, permanently locking them out. Hope that doesn't happen and not sure if there's anything to be done about it besides just having a secure password.

If they do manage to crack someone's password, don't worry, I can reset it for them.

Unless they manage to crack my password or Tam's. If that happens, then we're probably in trouble.
