View Full Version : Is the whole White Tower system based on bullying?

My last thread got me thinking on this. We know that Aes Sedai, for better or for worse, are always scheming something, but another thing we often see is more powerful channelers bullying the weaker ones due to some stupid deference system, rather than going by wisdom and/or experience. Instead, it only goes by raw power, and you often in the series, see it abused. Aes Sedai who are weaker in the power, are at best, ignored by those stronger than them, even if they are wiser or more experienced.

In a bit of irony, Nynaeve more or less points this out during a conversation with a weaker Aes Sedai.

We obviously have Elaida throwing her weight around as Amyrlin, but we also have Egwene making other Aes Sedai swear to her, Siuan being forced nearly into an outcastp position despite regaining the ability to channel (this time, far weaker than before), and obviously Cadsuane with her various "tactics" that she uses on those around her. And lets not forget the many times we get an Aes Sedai POV and they think the world should bend knee to them.

So, could it be said that the White Tower, at least in the sense that we know it, is built around bullying?

Yes.

But that's not really different from the feudal world around them, is it?
