With roughly 100 traits for each profession, there are way more traits in the game than you could possibly equip on a single character, so you have to make decisions and choose certain traits over others.
I'm not entirely sure I like what this could imply. I like Guild Wars in that if you're missing something you can go somewhere and pick it, sometimes easily (ie 1k and a skill trainer), sometimes not so easily (a Pve skill that you need to do a quest or mission for, an elite skill that you need to kill a specific boss for, or a profession change which is dependent on where you are in the story), but you have that option to go and pick it up, even if it might take some work to get there.

Perhaps it's the collector mentality, but I want to be able to get everything. I don't like that I might miss out on something and not going to be able to get it later.

This is starting to sound more and more like the old "you pick class "y", and then at level "x" you can choose between two different professions that are similar to the first" thing.

ex: Warrior --many levels later--> Assassin or Barbarian or Mongol Warlord or whatever.
Mage --many levels later--> Elementalist or Mesmer or blah de blah.

So if you ever decide you want to change, but not completely, just to the OTHER side of the split, you have to start back at your original one with a new character.

That's been done before, and it's always aggravating... unless I'm misunderstanding? Is it more like "You pick Warrior and then as you level you place skill points into the tree you want to go into"? Kinda like with Elementalists you pick between the four things, Fire, earth, water, etc.
Ex:
Warrior --one level later--> Pick from one of the x number of skill trees to place your point in.

Similar to how Borderlands does it?

In one of the other articles I posted it has been stated you can switch out your skills or traits at will. You will not be forced into a specific direction.

Sweet. That allays a bit of my fears Granted, first I have to get a computer that will be able to handle this game before I can begin to worry about how the game plays...

you can swap out your traits at will if you have them...and the article mentions that you have to pick between them. Whether that's pick between them for you over all build, or pick between selecting one when you beat up the old master swordsman, is what I'm worried about. If it's the former, no big deal. If it's the latter I'm not happy.

And it looks like the elementalist is just going to be an elementalist. I cannot really see them making an elementalist class that can become a mesmer.

I highly doubt Anet will do that to their players. I believe that you have the possibility to get everything. Since this is a 'True MMORPG',unlike GW1, things will take time to get as you progress. But as long as it stays fun and entertaining, I personally don't see a problem.

Step 4: Assign your traits. Here you can start focusing your play style and being clever with what you slot in each trait line.

Looks to me you can assign any trait you have. Been stated you can have up to 100 or so traits depending on class. However you can only have a dozen or so slotted for use at any given time. And you can switch those out at any time to give you build more flavor.

Yeah, I saw that part, which makes me feel a bit better, but they way they worded it the first time, makes me nervous.

I have faith. GW2 is turning out to be the MMORPG I have been searching for over a decade. GW1 came close but was missing some of the key elements I like having in a MMORPG. Looks like GW2 fills in those missing elements very well while keeping to GW1 fun to play game mechanic.

The main thing that worries me is that they keep referring to this as a "true MMO".
Does that mean they aren't instancing everything like GW1? That's one of the reasons it's the only MMO I've ever managed to like...

Personal Story ( your own personal missions ) and dungeons are instanced. PVE areas are persistent. You are not forced to be in a party. You can solo the entire game if you wish.
