Default Who tought Delana of compulsion

Don't know if that was already discussed, but when reading book 13, as you remember, Delana does compulsion on that poor lord that Rand sent to Graendal to verify if she's there and if balefire really worked.

So how on earth that Delana knew of compulsion? Aran'gar says she was tought to do it. It is obvious that Graendal wasn't the one to teach Delana because she asked about it. Aran'gar also couldn't teach her.

We also know that Black Ajah most probably knows next to nothing about compulsion as only Verin uses it and she learned it very hard way, I mean not from other BA. So most probably the only people who really can use it and teach some one are the Forsaken. But knowing who they are it is very unlike they will ever teach some one that useful technology.

It's stated a few times, but one of the things that future tower initiates learn on their own is generally a way to listen on other people, or a light form of Compulsion, where they get a relative to buy them something or do something for them.

Moghedien is also a possibility, though it's not really made clear at what length the three were together.

But Aran'gar states that Delana was tought using it, not like she had a talant for it.
And I don't think you can learn compulsion by just watching some one doing that, I guess you will need even more then one session to learn so you can really make any use of it.

Yes but that makes no sense knowing Moggy. She wasn't likely to teach any one her tricks.

Plus she didn't meet Delana for very long in a possible teaching environment, since she was then summoned to Shayol Ghul almost immediately.

A more reasonable explanation would be Semirhage, who had the task of helping Aran'gar to settle in with the AS. And Semirhage had a somewhat more contemptuous view of Compulsion; she preferred her own approach towards persuasion. So she may have taught this to a woman who wasn't strong enough to be a threat to her anyway.

I look at it in context of it not being one of "her" tricks and knowing perfectly well that most other women already had their own lighter version of it. Also, being as she was freed by them, there are some obligations that could easily have been called on. Show her the weave, and move on.

It might even have been a secret weave of the Gray Ajah - certainly compulsion would be a useful weave for their ajah's typical activities. And while that might seem a bit nefarious, so too might the Blue's secret fear-inducing weave. The bottom line however is that we simply cannot know, but moreover, since so many sisters, both black and otherwise knew the weave, why should we care who "taught" her? It certainly is not likely through its uncovering, unless due to something truly random (such as my unlikely posit above), to reveal anything interesting.

As an aside - I rather hope that the new encyclopedia reveals some of the secret weaves of the other ajahs. Would be interesting if RJ left notes on any of the old (or new) weaves that the individual ajah's hoarded, especially as they are likely to have been things like that fear weave of the Blue's that perhaps one Blue sister stumbled upon and taught her colleagues, but which the ajah head either thought would be too embarrassing to pass along due to its questionable ethics, or too useful to pass along due to a unique advantage that it presented.

It took reading this a second time and a visit to ewot to remember the context, but yeah. Boss isn't likely to brook waiting on a teaching lesson.

Possibly, but when you mentioned this it occurred to me that Mesaana (who is part of Semirhage's trio) was actually running the show at the White Tower, which is where Delana was prior to the tower schism. Delana is a known darkfriend in Verin's book despite that Verin hadn't been to Salidar, and Verin's awareness of a Forsaken puts them all there in roughly the same time frame.

Semirhage could have been the one to teach the weave, but anything she does comes with a cost.

I'm not sure Delana could have appealed against paying that cost quickly enough to do her any good.
