I actually took the time to research them, and read the file.

First off, Coalfire might actually be a legitimate company. They seem to have the credentials for it, at least.

Second, and maybe this is me not having the techno-jargon to read the report well, CS never actually states that the audio and video are of the same provenance. All it says is that they are reasonably certain that the video is unedited, and that the audio is unedited. Whether the video and the audio are from the same recording is not mentioned. Specifically this language:

This resulted in audio recordings from the point of view of both Investigator 1 and Investigator 2 that are separate from the audio captured by the video recording device.
Now, that seems to me like a very thinly veiled attempt on the part of Coalfire Systems, Inc to provide the client what they asked for (confirmation that both the video and audio were not tampered with) without actually addressing the important issue (whether or not the audio and the video are recording the same events).

Which is, of course, both the issue with taking information out of context (e.g. thinking that a report that confirms the authenticity of the video actually confirms the interpretation of said video) and the issue with auditors in general; as long as an accountant/auditor is careful with phrasing, he/she can attest to almost anything under the sun without being liable for when those statements are used to misrepresent an obvious falsehood.
