Looking at the positive - she is only 63, and she could probably beat Trump. But I don't think she'd be a good president, at least not compared to any typical dem (maybe even compared to Bernie). And I'm not sure that any dem could stand a chance against her, considering the significance of African American women in dem primaries.

This has the feel of a bad idea that may be unavoidable.

I threw out the idea on another site that if you were to adopt a reality tv-style public voting system for both the primaries and the presidential election you'd probably get more people voting.

I suspect that if Trump got impeached, then Oprah wouldn't run. So the options are:
-Oprah to beat Trump.
-Some other Democrat to run against a sane and reasonable Republican candidate.

Only way Trump gets impeached is if he pulls of his mask and reveals that it was Obama all along.

One potential danger...he and Kelli Ward could split the Far Right vote in the GOP primary and allow their "moderate" candidate to cruise to an easy victory. If he or Ward wins the primary, it significantly increases the Dems chances of taking the seat.

Looks like Missouri may soon need a new governor.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42643925

Quote:
Republican Governor Eric Greitens acknowledged an affair after a local television outlet aired a salacious recording by the woman's ex-husband.
In the recording the unidentified woman claims he took nude photos without her consent and threatened her with them.
Quote:
In the recording the woman is purportedly heard telling her husband in a tearful admission that she had visited the Mr Greitens' house in March 2015 after he refused to meet her in a public place.
She allegedly explained how he taped her hands to exercise rings, blindfolded her and took nude photos without her consent during an otherwise consensual encounter.
Quote:
She purportedly said she "saw a flash through the blindfold and he said, 'You're never going to mention my name".
And, of course...

Quote:
During his 2016 campaign Mr Greitens, an ex-Navy Seal, billed himself as a family man.

One is left to wonder if there really is any red line for elected republicans with Trump, because while thoroughly unsurprising, this is still...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...=.e2968076641e

Quote:
President Trump grew frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they floated restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to two people briefed on the meeting.

“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, according to these people, referring to African countries and Haiti. He then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met yesterday.

A day later, and republicans still can't seem to decide whether to openly defend the shithole, or just to claim that Durbin was lying.

Can't help but wonder if Trump's own people have leaked this tabloid hetairai story to distract from his far more embarrassing racist story.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/porn-s...ir-hotel-room/

Quote:
On Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Michael Cohen, the longtime lawyer for President Donald J. Trump, arranged a $130,000 hush payment to porn star Stormy Daniels one month prior to the 2016 presidential election.

According to the Journal, the payment was made “as part of an agreement that precluded her from publicly discussing an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump.” Daniels (given name: Stephanie Clifford) had reportedly been in talks with both ABC’s Good Morning America and the parent company of the National Enquirer about going public with the allegations, with the latter dangling a $150,000 offer to the ex-adult film actress.
Quote:
Daniels’ story would have come on the heels of the porn star Jessica Drake coming forward in late October 2016 to accuse Trump of kissing her without consent and offering her $10,000 in exchange for sex in 2006. Then, on Nov. 4, 2016, the Journal unearthed documents revealing that the Trump-friendly rag National Enquirer had shelled out $150,000 to Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal for a tell-all about her alleged 10-month affair with The Donald from 2006 to 2007. They never ran the piece.
Trump's friendly relationship with the Enquirer has always been somewhat odd. Makes you wonder about who may secretly own the Enquirer. It has had bankruptcy issues recently. Russian oligarchs?

Makes sense. It keeps Donny friendly by burying his problems, and if he ever decides to grow a spine you crush him with dozens of scandals.

It may just be paranoia, but invest in Wikileaks to manipulate gullible dems? Invest in the Enquirer to manipulate gullible republicans? Invest in Facebook to manipulate gullible Americans across the whole spectrum?

If nothing else, the Enquirer making sizable payoffs to two porn stars to kill stories about being Trump geishas is odd. That money had to come from somewhere. It could just have been purely from Trump via his shady lawyer, Cohen, but we know that the Russians basically own Trump. We know that the Russians are Wikileaks. We know that they used Facebook. The Enquirer would seem to fit a similar pattern.

First of all never assume your opponent is an n-th dimension chess master. They put money in and it worked. It's not part of some grand scheme for mass manipulation. Likely they saw results and then just continued.

It seems that Russian money laundering is all over the place, throwing around cash that makes the quarter million paid out to these two seem like spare change. I mean $100,000 is a sizable amount of money to me, probably you, and those porn stars as well. To Trump, it should be pocket change, but he's not likely worth as much as anyone really thinks he is. The Russians? They probably give their kids weekly allowances that are larger than these payouts. The fact that it killed the stories and gave them leverage was a bonus.

The amount paid out to those two whores was minuscule. It was essentially just the money for the exclusive right to the story. But a story that they didn't print. Which begs the question, why? What exactly is going on between the Enquirer and Trump? Is it simply that he paid out exponentially more to the Enquirer to bury the story, and then that paltry amount to the whores to buy the story from them? Maybe. But how else to explain the seemingly long-standing and close relationship between Trump and the Enquirer?

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2...rvor-for-trump

Quote:
Throughout the 2016 Presidential race, the Enquirer embraced Trump with sycophantic fervor. The magazine made its first political endorsement ever, of Trump, last spring. Cover headlines promised, “donald trump’s revenge on hillary & her puppets” and “top secret plan inside: how trump will win debate!” The publication trashed Trump’s rivals, running a dubious cover story on Ted Cruz that described him as a philanderer and another highly questionable piece that linked Cruz’s father to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
It was even tougher on Hillary Clinton, regularly printing such headlines as “ ‘sociopath’ hillary clinton’s secret psych files exposed!” A 2015 piece began, “Failing health and a deadly thirst for power are driving Hillary Clinton to an early grave, The National Enquirer has learned in a bombshell investigation. The desperate and deteriorating 67-year-old won’t make it to the White House—because she’ll be dead in six months.” On election eve, the Enquirer offered a special nine-page investigation under the headline “hillary: corrupt! racist! criminal!” This blatantly skewed coverage continued after Trump took office. Post-election cover stories included “trump takes charge! success in just 36 days!” and “proof obama wiretapped trump! lies, leaks & illegal bugging.”
They also did a couple of hit pieces on Cruz, probably Trump's most serious late-stage competition during the republican primary. There is something weird here.

This same article, from back in July, mentions the payoff to one of the porn bimbos, Karen McDougal...

Quote:
Pecker denies telling Wenner that he killed stories for Trump or that he hired a columnist in order to suppress a story about Trump. Nevertheless, last year the Wall Street Journal reported that Pecker paid a hundred and fifty thousand dollars to a woman named Karen McDougal, who had alleged that she had a months-long romantic relationship with Trump, beginning in 2006, during his marriage to Melania.
For what it's worth, Toobin (who wrote the article), thinks that it is simply that Pecker (the CEO of the Enquirer) is close friends with Trump. Maybe, but this still seems odd.

Fake nukes.

That said, if a ballistic missile were launched from North Korea to Hawaii, it would take more than 38 minutes to get there. Thus, it may be that they didn't give the all clear until after they were sure that there really wasn't going to be an awkward mushroom cloud to explain.

On a side note: apparently Kim and Trump aren't the only ones with such useful buttons on their desks.
