Default NY state healthcare workers and H1N1

This has my panties in a bunch.

As a health-care worker in training, I know that I have an ethical duty and mandate to give primacy to my clients' needs.

These healthcare workers are putting their personal interest first at the direct expense of patients. By refusing to accept the vaccine they are - by ALL scientific evidence - placing their patients at greater risk.

Furthermore, the vaccine is a condition of employment, not of existence. Don't want the vaccine? Fine. Go work someplace else. You SHOULD be doing that anyway because you are ethically bankrupt.

This just in: People are stupid.

Clearly this vaccine is an evil plot by Obama to get us all in front of death panels.

Vaccines work differently for different people... The flu vaccine gives me the flu for example. I even got exempt from taking it in the military when i developed bronchites from a a flu which i got from the flu vaccine.

edit* would not the risk of the passing on the flu be the same? A vaccine doesnt actually prevent you from catching the bug, it just helps you ward it off better. So wouldnt transmission with or without a flu shot be possible?

No. And yes, it does prevent you from developing a transmissible infection from the bug for which that vaccine is specific.

and considering that all the injectable vaccines are dead virus, it's amazing that you develop an illness caused by dead bugs.

Bryan gets sick every year, Prof. As a matter of fact, he's feeling achy as hell right now since he just got the shot yesterday.

It ain't from the virus.....they can't do anything because they're dead. It's more likely his immune system objecting to the foreign protein, a sort of reasonable response (as opposed to my lovely daughter's very unreasonable response to peanut protein). But the virus isn't doing anything, being that it's dead.

That's more from the tracking devices that the gov't slips in through the "vaccine". Its common knowledge that the average tracking chip only has about 1 year of life in it so they have to put a new one in every fall.

That's just when the mobile vaccine unit folks come through VT for all the govies...guess our flu season starts later or something.

I've gotten it every year for the past 10 years with no major issues...other than a sore arm from the injection.

Makes sense, all things considered.

According to Google Flu Trends, Texas is doing far worse than VT right now...which is odd. Prof?

Well i have gotten very ill each time ive gotten the flu shot. Normally its a rare thing for me to get the flu anyhow. It could be just the shot. I tend to pass out if blood is drawn. Im on the ARC'a list of people they cant take blood from.

Blame end of summer air conditioning (our high this week was 95) and immigrants, legal or otherwise, from Mexico. It's not like our population's all that dense comparatively.

there is a nasal spray vaccine that uses live attenuated virus. Don't know about sources.

If I had to make a guess, I would say differing starts to the school year and differing degrees of classroom crowding. And maybe Vermonters are more amenable to getting vaccinated than Texans (although it's actually too early for that to make a difference).

on edit: and don't forget, this is based on Google searches, so reflects the degree to which people are wondering about flu and symptoms. One could hypothesize that people in different locations have different degrees of concern, perhaps driven in part by what they see in local TV or some such.

on edit again...This is a very cute site to see who's complaining of what in your area.

Care to comment on medical ethics codes relating to this, Prof? Understand that it is a different state and everything.
