Default Sanderson: "There are things about the WoT ending..."

https://www.deseretnews.com/article/...lds-faith.html

There are things about The Wheel of Time ending … there are secrets that fans have not yet discovered and which nobody has asked me about yet. Major things. Major, kind of world-shaking, Wheel of Time things that are foreshadowed in the last books that no one has yet figured out or asked me about.

Do you guys think there's anything to this? There can't possibly be any earth shattering revelatory stuff that we've all missed right? Brandon's writing in aMoL wasn't exactly subtle.. still I wonder what he's talking about

It's possible that this was just his way to draw attention to the fact that he just yesterday released Oathbringer, the next book in his Stormlight series. I will admit that my first thought upon reading this was to check if he had just released anything new.

On the other hand, Sanderson is a more prolific writer than Jordan was, so having him release a new book isn't really too surprising.

Phoenix ComicCon Report - KakitaOCU (Paraphrased) Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

He stated straight out that Lanfear had additional plans in motion that can be figured out based on A Memory of Light that none of the fandom has found yet (or at least not posted). He was asked for specifics and gave a RAFO, then specified he meant that in terms of re-reading A Memory of Light.

This kind of "Tee hee, I'm so clever and you readers are so stupid!" shit was tiresome when Jordan did it. It's not any better when the hack they brought in to finish the job has a go.

I refuse to believe there's anything huge that we haven't found yet.

But I guess there could be some AS-shit going on here:

Well, Cyndane/Lanfear quite often had to run off from her attempted seduction of Perrin in order to deal with something. She suggested that something was "hiding from Moridin", but that need not have been the case. After all, Moridin was pretty busy setting up his own trap at the time, wasn't he?

I'm gonna go with "No, there aren't". And if there are, its stupid crap he added in there like that idiotic character he just HAD to put into the final books. "Oh wow, he's great with gateways and leather and talking and everything under the sun, fucking Mary Sue POS character"

There's no such thing as too much hate in fandom.

As much as I like Sanderson's own books, and as much as I respect him for doing his best at an impossible task of finishing WoT I just want to hop in and say

Yes, that character he made up was genuinely one of the worst characters. I truly, truly disliked reading anything from his PoV. Which is also unfortunate because, at least in theory, I like the concept of someone talented with gateways and using them vertically, etc. But it just ruined even that potentially cool idea for me.

ANYWAY, I also can't see there being anything important that Lanfear had planned. I'm absolutely sure she had dozens of plans on the go, but what difference would it make? Zero, I think

Burn my eyes, it would not be a surprise to hear she had great plans.

Sure, she may have posed as a shimmering silvery figure responsible for Lord Luc greeting the Lord Dragon in Far Madding, and sending thousands of Trollocs to Lord Algarin's manor. But those are petty matters.

No, there is no doubt that she was involved in the far greater matter of her crest and sigil, looking to divest it of a few stars to achieve a wondrous look.

Androl truly was a POS character. His Gateway skills could easily have been given to existing Aes Sedai and Asha'man. There was literally no reason to do what Brandon did.

If he wanted to write a character who wasn't much explored, there were already existent Asha'man, like Narishma, to play with. Shoehorning a new character was completely wasteful, and disrespectful, given how critical a role he ended up playing.

As for secrets... I'm pretty sure there are some, but I'm just as sure someone here or elsewhere stumbled across them, and Brandon just doesn't know. To give him credit on this, he acknowledged this possibility.

It may have just been a combination of a paucity of notes on what to do with Logain, Flynn, and Narishma, coupled with a desire to make both a character and a skill that was wholly his own. Had it not been for all the foreshadowing of significance for both Logain and Narishma, he could, perhaps, have pulled that off. Instead it left the feeling that both characters had been cheated of their glory.

As an aside, has anyone started reading Oathbringer? Any good? Trying to decide what to read over the upcoming holiday.

I must not be a true Sanderson fan. I only just learned about the Oathbringer release from this thread.

But I did immediately buy the Kindle version and will probably finish it in a few days.

I have read it, and liked it very much. It answers at lot of questions from the earlier books, although it obviously raises many new ones.
It's to bad we have to wait another 3 years for the next book in the series.

I finished it too and liked it a lot. In some ways I found it darker and more uncomfortable to read than the first 2 books, which - to me - actually made it better.

Yeah, some parts were certainly uncomfortable and hard to read. It was what the character and the story needed.
