Point of order: who is actually legally Bela's owner?

That horse used to belong to Tam al'Thor. Rand then borrowed her to provide his girlfriend with a mound, which was sort of all right, I guess, but shouldn't have changed the ownership. Since then, there hasn't been a legal sale that I know of, so seemingly Bela would still belong to al'Thor senior.

I'm not sure how the White Tower would react if he came to ask for his horse back, though.

Of course, there's also the point that Rand will have to fight Bela (and her rider, probably) very soon, but here I'm ignoring that detail.

Well, if he'd ask the local stable-hand, he'd probably have him thrown out. If he goes straight to the top and asks the Amyrlin, I doubt she'd give him any trouble.

Seeing as how he actually tamed Cadsuane already, you mean?

I've now reached the point in ToM where Egwene is worrying over how to catch Mesaana. One of the problems she has is that no one actually knows anything about the Forsaken anymore, with the exceptions of the other Forsaken and Rand al'Thor. She can't reach any of the other Forsaken, and even if she did manage it, they probably wouldn't bother helping her out. So she doesn't ask Rand either. As is usually the case with Egwene, I think that that she is making a mistake.

She stiffened. The darkness was enormous, covering the entirety of his mind. Thousands upon thousands of the tiny black thorns pricked into his brain, but beneath them was a brilliant white lacing of something. A white radiance, like liquid Power. Light given form and life. She gasped. It coated each of the dark tines, driving into his mind alongside them. What did it mean?

She didn't have any idea how to begin working on this. There were so many barbs. How could he even think with that much darkness pressing against his brain? And what had created the whiteness? She'd Healed Rand before, and hadn't noticed it then. Of course, she'd never seen the darkness until recently. Her practice with Delving was likely the reason.
I'm wondering: do we see here the actual purpose of the Eye of the World?
Was that meant to protect the Dragon from the Taint as well as could be managed?

Pshaw! You make it sound as though this so called Eye of the World was made against the greatest need the world would ever face.

Next you will claim a hundred Aes Sedai gave their lives to create it. Or that it has the power to break the Great . . . I mean the Dark One's prison.

Sorry...how? Like a buffer? Or a sink from which to draw OP from while he figures it out? Or something else?

A protective cap around the Dragon's mind.
That protection would of course only work if the Dragon had the right mindset, so when he was being Dark Rand, he still got infected by the Taint. Now that he has learned to always look on the bright side of life, he is also protected against the madness induced by the Taint, which means that he'll keep his sunny disposition henceforth.

I'm a bit rusty, and I'm not really sure how serious you are about this, so I proceed with caution...

So, if he hadn't depleted the Eye, it would have acted as a cap/ buffer, but he because he did deplete it, it didn't? After all, he didn't go all Dark Rand for a while, right? I mean, it took a while and many tiny deaths by a thousand cuts to get there.

No, that's not quite what I think was the idea.

My idea is that by depleting the Eye, he ingested (or whatever metaphor is appropriate) the protection. But because he had the wrong attitude (being distrustful, angry, suspicious and so forth), this protection did not work perfectly, thus allowing the Taint to warp him and pushing him even further in the wrong direction. Then, after his Sleepover on the Mount, he changed enough to make the protection work as intended. And that's how Nynaeve found him: with the Taint induced Compulsion all over his mind, but him being protected from it by the effects of the Eye.

"He would not lie about this," Aviendha said.
A small wake of buzzards cawed and flapped past in the dark night air.
But what do buzzards flying at night in the Aiel Waste mean?
Did Rand actually lie? Can he be trusted? Will he still respect her in the morning?

It seems likely that Perrin will officiate at the Dragon's Wedding.

Should've posted this here before starting my read of AMoL. Oh well:

Almost as if Moiraine might be a HotH too, isn't it?
