Default Iain M Banks sad news

Iain Banks released a statement yesterday saying he's been diagnosed with termincal cancer

BBC article:

Personal statement from Mr Banks:

Very sad news. I am a huge fan of his work - I discovered him first as a science fiction author and then began reading his standard fiction, although you can't really call his fiction standard. He is a challenging author and deals with difficult subject matter in those of his novels I've read. He is the author I'm currently collecting, I always know I'm safe to just pick up any of his books and I'll be guaranteed to wrestle with it, be baffled by it, be challenged by it, be amazed by his mind, and always always enjoy it.

With regards to his sci-fi, he is most famous for his series about The Culture - I have this abiding desire that we will one day get into space and discover it really exisits. As I said on fb, I have always wanted to be a member, just show me where to sign up. He writes very accessible sci-fi, he manages to convey his ideas and write a good story without getting too bogged down in the technicality of it all. He was listed in that top 100 thing Frenzy posted a bit further down, although he was quite far down the list. Like I said at the time tho, that'll be a Yankee thing

I recommend him, if you like that kind of thing.

Once again, very sad
