Default Poetry

Not sure if we've ever done this, but I figured I'd start a thread for people to post random pieces of poetry they had.

I was never really into it all that much, but I took a (required) poetry workshop a few years ago and figured I could share a poem or two. For the most part I just did my own thing in that class, and while everyone else was trying hard to write amazingly deep and lyrical poems, I wrote...well, I'll post one in a second. The professor for this class kind of hated me, I think...

Bacon Boy

Here comes the bacon boy,
Running down the street.
He’s going to the corner store
To buy his favorite meat.

Racing through the aisles,
He’s not your average buyer.
Bacon boy is here to meet
His old friend, Oscar Mayer.

He passes up the Lunchables,
And baloney’s not his thing.
The hotdogs sure look tempting,
But they just don’t have that zing.

A mist clears, and trumpets blare;
The deli is in sight!
But there’s only one package left,
And that surely can’t be right.

As bacon boy stands staring
Another customer draws near.
Only one can leave the scene alive,
But our hero has no fear.

No, bacon boy is brave and true,
He knows just how to act.
His courage is his weapon
As is his metal bat.

The fight is short, the victor clear;
Bacon boy stands supreme.
He brushes off his hands
Until they’re spotless and they gleam.

As winner he now claims his prize;
It’s the last bacon pack itself.
Bacon boy extends his hand
To take it from the shelf.

Now bacon boy runs back home,
Dashing up the street.
He sits at kitchen table
To open up his treat.

He’s sitting there contentedly
Eating up his spoils,
When to his great dismay
His stomach sharply roils.

Examining the bacon package,
Bacon boy grows quite tired.
But then his eyes pop open
When he finds it has expired.

So bacon boy goes off to rest,
But he does not enjoy
Digestion of the spoiled meat,
Which kills the bacon boy.

Sounds like it could almost be a theme song for a cartoon. XD

I used to write a lot of poetry, but I really haven't had the desire nor the ability to write anything that means much of anything to me over the past few years. I thought I was pretty good (but I wasn't really ). Maybe I'll get back into it one day.

Yeah, I don't really have much experience with poetry outside that one class I took. The first day the teacher went around asking us who our favorite poets were. Everyone was mentioning all these names I'd never heard of, so when my turn came I just said my favorite poet was Dr. Seuss .

Then after that pretty much all I wrote was Dr. Seuss type stuff. I did come up with at least one "normal" poem. I'll see if I can find it at some point.
