2012-04-30: I had the great pleasure of speaking with Harriet McDougal Rigney about her life. She's an amazing talent and person and it will take you less than an hour to agree.

    Interview: May 17th, 2013

    Kogiopsis

Is Renarin Kholin on the autism spectrum?

    Brandon Sanderson

Slightly—not even so much as Asperger's, but yes. (Something about it being difficult to notice/diagnose?)

    Interview: Oct 5th, 2013

    Question

Are Renarin and Adolin Dalinar's legitimate children?

    Brandon Sanderson

Good question! Yes, they are both legitimate. Though Renarin didn't get as much of the hair, which is probably what people are asking about.

    Interview: Aug 9th, 2014

    Jeremy

Does Wit specifically treat people differently when he knows they're going to have a spren bond? (E.g. Renarin, Dalinar)

    Brandon Sanderson (Paraphrased)

Yes, Wit treats people differently, but it is not because of present or nascent spren bonds. He has an opinion of what each person needs to hear. He isn't always correct in this opinion, but he tries to give people what he thinks they need. In Dalinar's case, he simply has too much respect for the man to be glib. In Renarin's case, he believes that the boy has had more than enough breaking down, and is much more in need of building up.

    Interview: Nov 29th, 2014

    PrncRny

So Alethi hair "breeds true" based on the individual's ancestry, why then does Renarin have more black than Adolin?

    Brandon Sanderson (Paraphrased)

As with us regular people, different shades of skin can be had within the same family with the same parents, its just a matter of how their DNA falls out. No different here. Nothing special with Adolin and Renarin's hair.

    Interview: Sep 4th, 2014

    theravenchilde

I have one question from Feather, she's one of the mods on 17s, and she's dying to know what Renarin's eye color is, probably so she can write poetry about him.

    Brandon Sanderson

Right, right, right, right, right. Send me an email, I can't say because it might be different in the wiki.

Can Glys, Renarin's spren, be a box?

    Brandon Sanderson

The box is not his spren.

    Interview: Mar 29th, 2014

    Question

Is the second half of the series based off of some of these interlude characters?

    Brandon Sanderson

Some of the interlude characters, yes. And some that aren't interlude characters. For example, Renarin is going to be one of the back five.

    Interview: Jan 21st, 2015

    the_archduke

I missed the question but someone seemed to be berating Brandon in line about how poorly Glys treats Renarin, like it was abusive or something.

    Brandon Sanderson

Brandon said that that relationship is different, even for a Nahel bond. And we will see a lot more of Renarin in the next book.

    Interview: Oct 12th, 2015

    Question

About Renarin's Ssurgebinding. Are [his visions] they influenced by Voidbinding instead of Surgebinding? [unclear who "they" are-possibly his visions?]

    Brandon Sanderson

That's a RAFO. Q: And then if they are influenced by Odium the way that Dalinar's are influenced by Honor.

    Brandon Sanderson

That's a RAFO. I'm not going to talk about stuff like that! I have dropped some very blatant hints, and that is enough for me right now.

    Argent

I asked pretty much the same thing last time, and you pointed me to a certain page. Can I tell her what the page was?

    Brandon Sanderson

Yes. There are certain things going on with him that I feel are very blatant. He [Argent] is going to point them out to you.

    Interview: Jan 26th, 2016

    viridian

My younger daughter asked why, if Renarin could see the future, did he say "We're dead"?

    Brandon Sanderson

Brandon said this will be explained soon (I didn't remember Book 3 being specifically mentioned but I was distracted, and she swears she heard him say that's where it would be addresseed further).

At what point did Renarin hear the Shardblades screaming?

    Brandon Sanderson

He said "Earlier than what was apparent."

    Interview: Feb 25th, 2016

    Question

What is the thing with Adolin's serial dating? Is it just...?

    Brandon Sanderson

He is bad with relationships, and that's just it. He's a little bit scared of being good at relationships, and so there's some kind of unconscious sabotaging going on. But yeah, he's young and he's bad at relationships.

    Question

Do the Radiants have only one gender per [order], or you can have...?

    Brandon Sanderson

You have - yeah. There can be different genders.

    Question

Why is Dalinar very restrictive of Adolin but not with Renarin and Elhokar?

    Brandon Sanderson

It is a little bit - I would say a slight flaw on Dalinar's part, he's too hard on Adolin. But that's because Adolin is in line for the throne, and he's the eldest son, and the heir, and all of that stuff. I would say that Dalinar's a little too lax in some ways, a little too strict in others.
